A report from Autocar suggests that Porsche is seriously considering manufacturing the 918 Spyder which was shown as a concept at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. Apparently the car was such a hit that Porsche employees are now quite excited at the prospect of building it.

"There is no one inside Porsche who doesn't want to build the 918," CEO Michael Macht was quoted as saying. "The response has been marvellous; we will ask buyers to sign letters of intent."

Should it be given the green light the 918 Super Hybrid Spyder would go on sale within the next five years. The version shown at Geneva featured a V8 engine with three electric motors and a combined output of 528 kW (718 PS / 708 hp). As the new flagship model Porsche anticipates that it would be quicker around the Nurburgring's Nordschleife than the iconic Carrera GT.

This is a beautiful design, they need to change a few small design cues and it'll be perfect. About time Porsche did something different.

Front lights look a bit old fashioned. They should save weight by letting electric motor and batteries go to hell with Prius.

I couldn't agree more. A bunch of extra weight and complexity for a small gain in efficiency makes no sense for a sport car. Make the next Boxster look like this and you have a winner. If you want efficiency than put a turbo or two on a four cylinder boxer and use lots of aluminum and carbon fiber in the chassis and/or body.

the front lights look old fashioned because the car is meant to look like the '60s and '70s racers.

being a hybrid is the whole point of the car. anyone can make a 1000hp engine nowadays. not everyone can make a super efficient hypercar.

Nice, but other than the CGT-style deck intakes and the emblem on the front it does not look like a Porsche.

A quick glance and I would have thought it is a Lotus.

I like how the future outsides mirrors looking like a twig. The windshied pillars definitely need some serious reinforcement engineering unless one wishes to see a stretch of the driver's scalp skin on the asphalt in the event of a rollover.

Im gona have to disagree with you and say it definitely resembles the 917 and Spyder Rs. Crazy right. Racing heritage.

@ LifeLongCarGuy , it does not look like a 911 , but it looks 100% like a Porsche. it looks like the 904, 906, 907, 908 , 917.

I love how the design resembles the Porsche 904 from back in the 60's.

I like how the future outside mirrors looks like nothing but a twig.

This is the least they can do !! Every one can anounce a 3 liters consumption for 700 HP and never prove it... Let's prove it Porsche !

If only porsche could get it into their heads that this a good looking car. people say the point of the 911 is that it never changes it`s look, but common, 40 years on a design that doesn`t even look good?!
