1950s formula one great Sir Stirling Moss is in intensive care after a three-storey fall at his home in London.
The 80-year-old Briton, who won 16 grands prix, is not in a life-threatening condition but has broken ankles, feet and vertebrae damage.
The Daily Mail newspaper reported that, with the lift in his house malfunctioning and remaining at the fourth floor, Moss stepped into the shaft on the third floor and fell to the concrete base.
"Amazingly he did not suffer any internal injuries," confirmed British Racing Drivers' Club secretary Stuart Pringle, who said Moss has been operated on.
"Lady (Susan) Moss has just telephoned me and although Sir Stirling is not in good shape, he is no longer in danger," he added.

Hopfuly all will be OK Get well soon Sir Best wishes
I sure don't want that happening to me. Next time I'm at the doctor I'll ask him about upgrading my skeleton with some of that "naturally occuring carbon fiber" that I keep hearing so much about.
Ooh crikey! Thank goodness it's not life-threatening. That must've REALLY hurt. Get well soon Sir Moss.
You know what they say, 'A rolling stone gathers no Moss' I bet Mick Jagger couldn't pull of a jump like that. Moss, apologies, Three-Nil!
