Renault introduced the new Renault Clio Gordini 200 at the Geneva Motor Show today.  The sporty-looking car is a follow-up to the Renaultsport Twingo Gordini 133 revealed late last year.

The latest Gordini is hardly a surprise.  Two weeks before the Twingo model was shown, the French automaker told of their plans to revive the Gordini name with the help of Renault Sport Technologies.

This latest model uses a 200 PS (147 kW / 197 hp) 2.0-liter 16-valve engine generating up to 215Nm (159 lb-ft) of torque, likely providing a sub-seven second 0-100km/h time.  The car was not surprisingly painted in blue and adorned with two right-of-center white racing stripes.

Other features in the car include an interior fitted with leather, piano black lacquer, and metal trim.  The car comes with an unremarkable CD audio system with USB connection, Bluetooth, automatic wipers, automatic lights, cruise control, and a key card to get the car going.

The car is named for former Renault sport designter Amédée Gordini, made famous with the 1964 Tour de Corsica rally.  At the event, his design for the R8 took four of the top five spots, including the checkered flag.

In the U.K., the Renaultsport Twingo Gordini 133 will go on sale in March, with the Clio Gordini 200 being on offer in the summer.

CLIO GORDINI 200
ONE GORDINI IN THE SLIPSTREAM OF ANOTHER...

Following last year's unveiling of Renaultsport's pocket rocket, Twingo Gordini 133, Renault reveals its new Clio Gordini 200 at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show.

A modern interpretation of classic Gordini styling cues, the Clio Gordini 200 will appeal to the ever-growing number of drivers who are looking for an exclusive vehicle with an unmistakable French touch:

  • a 2.0-litre 16-valve engine producing 200 horsepower and 215Nm of torque that pulls as strongly from low revs as it does towards the red line
  • a Renaultsport chassis to transmit that power to the road effectively
  • a distinctive design: Malta Blue bodywork embellished by two hallmark white Gordini stripes and a stylish interior cocktail of leather, black lacquer and metal
  • standard equipment worthy of a larger touring car, including 4x20W radio CD with MP3 reader and Bluetooth hands free system with fingertip remote controls and multi-functional TunePoint with USB connection, hands-free key card, cruise control, speed limiter and a range of practical driver aids (including auto lights and wipers) that enable Clio to set new standards in its class.

Clio Gordini 200 goes on sale in the UK in late summer.

They are reviving the name of a great engineer through special paint jobs! Typical contemporary superficial PR-oriented bull!

The paint job is great. Should rather be an option on RS models rather that a new model.
