One-Off Pagani Zonda Tricolore Announced for Geneva Debut

Pagani has released pictures of the Zonda Tricolore, a car based on the Zonda Cinque but with some marked differences. Only one Tricolore will be built and presumably it will be the same unit unveiled at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. Its purpose is to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Italian equivalent of the British Red Arrows Display team which is known as the ‘Frecce Tricolori'.

Its tub is also made from carbon fibre weaved with titanium wire while the exterior is just carbon fibre. The front end features special LED lights that look like the tail fin of an airplane. Instead of the Cinque's air intake snorkel, the Tricolore has a small vertical fin on top of the engine cover whose nature and purpose will be fully revealed at Geneva. The transmission is an automated paddle-shift type.

A clear blue lacquer (polish) coating and Frecce Tricori-mimicking strips running on the sides of the car complete the impressive body look.

This once-off Zonda Tricolore will be priced at an eye-watering €1.3 million (US$1.76 million).

A Zonda that is fitted with a paddleshifters? Does that mean the end for manual transmissions for future Paganis?

i'm afraid so. the C9 will have 1000NM torque, i don't think they will make a manual for that.

Pagani pride themselves on tailoring each car to the owner's desires. There are Zonda 7.3s with Zonda F brakes, a perspex engine window instead of a grille, different spoilers, exhaust arrangements, even an engine transplant. And I think you get leather driving shoes made by the Pope's cobbler, but that may be made up by TopGear. The point is, unless Scratchy is right about torque, I'm sure that, whilst the C9 may be announced with a DCT/semi-auto, you can have a manual car if you and your wallet ask nicely enough.

i am sure at ?1.3 million (US$1.76 million) it would have been sold before announcement.

Agreed. There just needs to be a button that repeatedly says "Carbo-Tanium" in a selection of female voices.

Wow, the blue-tinted carbon fibre (or perhaps just extremely thin paint) is a very nice touch! Although I hope those LED Daytime Running Lights don't make it to the C9. It's one detail too many on the front mask.
