BMW will use the Auto Mobil International motor show in Leipzig, Germany, as the launching ground for the new BMW 5-Series Touring (F10).  The fourth-generation wagon will be introduced to the media on April 9 before being shown off to the public.

The company explained their decision by saying the German market is their biggest for the 5er Touring.  Leipzig will likely be Germany's largest automotive show this year, as the biennial Frankfurt show is in a hiatus.

Look for the Touring edition to get the same seven engine choices as the sedan.  This could include the top-shelf 4.4-liter twin-turbo direct injection V8 petrol engine producing  408 PS (300 kW; 402 hp) and up to 600 Nm (440 lb-ft) of torque.  Also available are three straight-six petrol engines, and three four-cylinder diesels.

Alongside the 5er wagon, BMW will show off the 5er sedan, X5 facelift, and 3er convertible, all for the first time in Germany.

World Premiere in Leipzig: the new BMW 5 Series Touring.

Fourth Generation of the Highly Successful Business Touring Presented to the Public for the First Time at the 2010 Auto Mobil International (AMI).

Munich. BMW is returning to Auto Mobil International (AMI) Show in Leipzig with no less than a world debut, presenting the new BMW 5er Touring to the public for the first time when the Motor Show opens on the Leipzig Fairgrounds.

Through this significant model launch, BMW is setting one of the highlights at the AMI Show open to the public from 10 - 18 April 2010. At the same time further new models in the BMW range are to be seen for the first time in Germany at the 2010 AMI Show, among them the new BMW 5 Series Sedan, the new BMW X5, and the new BMW 3er Convertible.

BMW's appearance at the Show follows the guiding principle of "Joy", moving the world premiere of the new BMW 5 Series Touring as the top event at the AMI Show directly into the visitors' perspective through numerous activities. The 2010 AMI Show gives BMW the ideal setting to present the new edition of this successful Business Touring to the international public for the first time.

By tradition, the German market is the world's most significant sales region for the Touring version of the BMW 5 Series. As a further factor the world premiere of the new BMW 5 Series Touring highlights both the significance of the 2010 AMI as the No 1 car show in Germany this year and the close connection of the Company to the location in Leipzig. BMW Plant Leipzig builds not only the BMW 1 Series, but also the brand's latest highly successful model, the BMW X1.

Premium car maker BMW is presenting its current model range in a new exhibition area. Measuring approximately 1,500 square metres or more than 16,000 square feet, BMW's stand is being set up for the first time in Hall 3 of the AMI Fairgrounds.

BMW Classic is also represented in Leipzig with three historical cars on show in a special event in the Fairground's Glass Palace under the motto "Hidden Treasures - Car Museums Present their Greatest Highlights". And last but not least, BMW is also presenting the new BMW X1 for practical testing in the outdoor area of the Fairground.

For the love of humanity.....will BMW please design something out of the box. This wagon says BORING loud and clear. Put a skirt on it or a whole new front end or something. This looks outdated already!

Yeah, i have to say this new generation 5 series is totally unexciting. I hope the m5 will change that.

In side profile it looks odd with it's 1/2 mile of rear overhang. Audi owns this segment. Even as a new model it can't match the presence and beauty of even a 6 year old A6 Avant.

"Even as a new model it can't match the presence and beauty of even a 6 year old A6 Avant." Well let's not get too dramatic. Old Audi's tend to start looking frumpy after 5 years.

Disagree. Depends entirely on previous model year design, as it does with all manufactures. But let's make it a 5 year old A6 Avant then. I rest my case.

This is quite bland. Bangle had controversial designs but at least they were different. Audi still rules in the wagon department (I agree with CReeds).

mmmhhh I don' know....The CTS wagon has lot to offer inside and out and for it to be Caddy's first CTS wagon, it wasn't a bad design at all.

This is so dissapointing. BMW are lost without Bangle. This is really really bland. It kind of reminds me of the E39 estate. And I agree with CReeds the A6 Avant or the E60 Estate are the best looking estates out there.

a6 avant or sedan is so much better than 5 series in looks department at least.. and by the way even the 5 series touring designed by bangle was ugly as well soo...actually this is an improvement.

This understated design is just very nice for me, remind me of the great E38. Although for the first time I saw it here and I didn't like it, after a few months I just got thought that it is a new design to tell everybody that elegance never dies. Even it looks sportier than any BMW saloon including 3 series. On the other hand A6 is fantastic and great looking car, but it never impress me as it just "nice", only the A5 (both, coupe & sportback) really makes me wondering to trade in my E60.

Something about the profile reminds me of the Jag X-Type Estate.
