I guess some electric cars will be like all other technologies, at first primitive and expensive then as the technology gets better it becomes affordable at the same time. Like flat panel TVs the first LCD TV I saw was priced around $24,000 US in the 1990s, now you can get them for less then 900 dollars US.

That's very risky to price this car so high. No doubt it will be good, but how good? At the end of the day, people who spend that kind of money on this kind of car want more oomph. A sports car should be fast. This, with ~200bhp is not. I would rather get an A5 2.0T, for a quarter of the price.

when its a car like this, its not about being the fastest... its about being the first! and i'd be willing to bet my left nut that there will be at least 100 (then 100) people willing to spend that much to have such an exclusive 'different' car! ... watch this space...

please read more carefully. The quoted price is for orginal e-Tron (R8) which has over 310bhp and does 0-100kmh in 4.8 seconds. The 200bhp Audi E-tron mentioned further in the article is 200bhp, is named R4 and will cost less.

@ effington , you're right , people who spend that kind of money on a novelty don't care about performance , they just want an exclusive toy.

i think it is all about performance and comfort standards. such all electric models need a quick charge option and they need to outpace a comparable gasoline car, then the times of a typical combustion engine are really counted.

AUDI LIED ABOUT CARS SPECS!!! e-tron makes about 252 lb-ft of torque, or a bit less than the Tesla Roadster's 273 lb-ft... Audi sucks with bunch of lies!!

ooh i hate these cars, why? imagine the world with 1000 electronic cars that don't make CO2(actually they do),now is it a new world? ofcourse not , the result is disapointing . these cars are for people who want to say `yes i'm saving the planet so i'm a national treasure and everyone should say thank you to me.` it is hopeless.

You know, I believe that I love the earth just as much as the next person dose, and I think that electric cars are cool(if you're trying to "save the planet."), sort of. However, I think that a company, such as Audi should have taken it one step at a time. When I say this, I mean that they should have done more with their TDI models, for example: R8 TDI Le Mans. This car boasted a twin turbo V-12, producing 500 HP and 737 LB-ft @1750 RPM. And this is Diesel we're talking about here. And with further tweaking by Audi, who knew what more power could have been extracted from that power plant? Like I said before, I think Electric cars are OK, but if Audi is trying to do better for the Planet and at the same time, increase profits, then they would have probably been better off producing the car that I believed would have been easier (cheaper) to make.

@ tootall , electricity is the future , weather we like it or not. be glad you lived to see the best IC cars and you can tell your grandkids how great the IC cars were and how lame and expensive the early electric cars were.
