Coupe-Like Sedan

Our spy photographers have managed to capture new pictures of the 2011 Mercedes CLS-Class testing in Germany.

Previewed by the Rising Car concept, the redesigned CLS features a larger grille, a more prominent front bumper, angular headlights, and LED daytime running lights. Perhaps the most interesting detail is the position of the third brake light. It is located in the bumper between the exhausts pipes.

Inside, the swanky interior has been axed and replaced with a more cost-friendly E-Class copy. This is a bit of a disappointment, but things could be worse.

Under the hood, engine options will mirror those offered in the E-Class. This means we can expect a variety of petrol and diesel units, including a 3.5-liter V6 and a 5.5-liter V8. More importantly, the CLS AMG could be introduced with the long-awaited twin-turbo V8 with at least 400 kW (544 hp). A hybrid version is also expected.

Look for the redesigned CLS-Class to be unveiled later this year, with sales starting in early 2011.

This is going to be one ugly car, which is a shame since the first gen. CLS was really pretty though

Come on WCF, its called a Center-High-Mounted-Stop-Lamp. You don't think it HAS to be center high mounted?

you are totally right , this cant be a brakelight , it is most likely a foglight for the european market , like the audi tt , its centre mounted

Not excited for the new CLS, the E is more my style. I am looking forward to that new V8 though, should be good.

I never have really liked the CLS, I ddnt like the rear of the current one, but this one im starting to take an intrest in it... but drop the "4 door coupe" bull. just call them "sexy sedans" or "xxx sedans" or... nah, ill stop. And didnt the Koreans copy the Japanese (sp?) and the Germans?

Somehow the front looks like a Passat CC, just stick a VW badge to it...

Too much lines makes the car look rather distorted and busy. I miss the clean elegant shape and lines of today's CLS. Why do they have to make their cars look ugly and aggressive?

i think wcf is a little late to the party on this one. the front end of the new cls was shown briefly without any cover at all in the latest version of M-B drive magazine at mercedes-benz.tv. it's kind of blurred, but it is enough of a shot to know what this thing will look like. i really hope they don't carry the E interior over . . . big disappointment.

From left side of the car you can see that comand comm screen is not so high like in E-class, so interior is different...

good eye! if you look at the second picture you can see the top of the dash and he's right, there's no second screen to the right of the instrument panel. i think we may have been fooled by the interior on that test car several month's ago, perhaps they were using the e-class trappings to keep things under wrap. i think this car is going to be special.

the first gen CLS took a year or two to grow on me. i'm hoping this is the same because i think it's ugly and it would be a shame to ruin such a good idea, esp with Jag and Audi hot on MB's tail

It pains me to say it, but if all the spy picts are true, M-B has nothing to fear from the A7 or the XJ. The interiors may be far superior in both, but the exteriors leave much to be desired.

Judging by the rear, I think it's time for Mercedes to do the lazy and copy VW's Passat CC, after the Passat CC copied the first CLS. In a way, this car is it's own bad clone! Or it's own "grandpa" ;)

Yes,we were fooled with that test car interior pics.As I said this is not CLS Interior. The top dashboard color doesn't match the outside paint of the car.
