Porsche Panamera V6 Announced for Debut in Beijing

Features a 3.6-liter V6 with 300 bhp and 400 Nm of torque

Porsche has announced plans to introduce the entry-level Panamera and Panamera 4 at the Beijing Motor Show on April 23rd.

Virtually identical to the Panamera S, the Panamera is differentiated by a dual exhaust system (instead of a four-tailpipe unit), black window trim, and other minor exterior details.

Under the hood, power comes from a 3.6-liter V6 with 300 PS (220 kW / 296 bhp) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. As you can imagine, the performance is decent but nothing stellar. The dash from 0-60 mph takes 6.0 seconds in the Panamera and 5.8 seconds in the Panamera 4. On the upside, the Panamera consumes just 9.3 liters/100 kilometers (30.4 mpg UK) while the Panamera 4 chugs 9.6 liters/100 kilometers (29.4 mpg UK). To maximize efficiency, Porsche will offer low rolling resistance tires (complete with nineteen-inch wheels) that reduce fuel consumption by 0.2 liters/100 kilometers.

Set to go on sale in May, German pricing starts at €75,899 for the Panamera and €84,110 for the Panamera 4 (including VAT). Arriving in the U.S. in June, the Panamera and Panamera 4 will retail for $74,400 and $78,900, respectively.

World Debut in Beijing: Panamera and Panamera 4

Efficient, Light and Fast with Six-Cylinder Power Units

Stuttgart. Following the successful start of the Panamera into the market, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is rapidly expanding the range of models available: Starting in May 2010, both the Panamera and the Panamera 4 will be at the dealership as the new entry-level versions leading into Porsche's Gran Turismo model series.

Both models are powered by a brand-new 3.6-litre V6 featuring Direct Fuel Injection and developing maximum output of 300 bhp (220 kW) plus peak torque of 400 Nm/295 lb-ft. Following Porsche's nomenclature, the Panamera transmits its power to the road via the rear wheels, while the Panamera 4 comes as standard with active all-wheel drive.

The two new versions of Porsche's Gran Turismo are convincing examples of the Porsche Intelligent Performance consistent development strategy. Equipped with PDK Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (Porsche Double-Clutch Gearbox) and Auto Start Stop, both models consume far less than 10 litres of fuel on 100 kilometres in the New European Driving Cycle: The Panamera makes do with a mere 9.3 litres/100 kilometres (equal to 30.4 mpg imp), the Panamera 4 averages 9.6 litres/100 kilometres, equal to 29.4 mpg imp. Nineteen-inch all-year tyres with optimised roll resistance available as an option reduce these consumption figures by another 0.2 litres/100 kilometres, giving the Panamera a CO2 rating of just 213 g/km, the Panamera 4 an equally impressive 220 g/km. Both V6 versions of the Panamera fulfil the strict EU5 emission standard in Europe and the LEV standard in the United States.

Superior economy and performance typical of the brand do not rule out each other on these new V6 Gran Turismos. On the contrary - the ideal combination of these qualities is attributable to consistent lightweight construction as one particular highlight, with the axles, doors, engine compartment lid, wings and the rear lid all made either of aluminium or a combination of aluminium and magnesium. At the same time the brand-new V6 power unit built at Porsche's engine plant in Zuffenhausen and boasting a 90o cylinder angle is approximately 30 kg or 66 lb lighter than the eight-cylinder featured in the Panamera S and 4S, thus contributing to the low overall weight of the Panamera of just 1,730 kg or 3,815 lb.

Like the proven V8 models, both the Panamera and the Panamera 4, as genuine Gran Turismos, combine sporting character with a high standard of comfort and everyday driving qualities. Apart from the regular steel suspension available as an option with variable dampers, adaptive air suspension with additional air volume is also available on request. This provides a very wide range of suspension qualities and features extending from an even higher level of motoring comfort at one end all the way to extremely sporting driving dynamics at the other.

The Panamera and Panamera 4 will be making their world debut at the Beijing Motor Show as of 23 April 2010. Both models will be entering the German market in May 2010 and are scheduled to enter the US market in June.

Prices start at Euro 75,899.- including value-added tax and national specifications for the Panamera (base price in the Euro countries Euro 63,600.-), while the Panamera 4 fitted as standard with PDK Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe retails at Euro 84,110.- including VAT and national specifications (base price Euro 70,500.-).

In the US the Panamera and Panamera 4 MSRPs are $74,400 and $78,900, respectively.

Will this also be a Volkswagen sourced V6 as used in the Cayenne?

The red maroon de-chromed Panamera looks good I must say. Guess just keep the car away from the expensive option list and pure, the car's balance and lack of electronics will make it rewarding to drive. I would like to think the Panamera is a the spiritual 928 with two extra doors.

Who wants a VR6 Panamera? Isn't that an oxymoron?

They should've just stuck to their S and Turbo models. I am collecting the Turbo next month and I'm not happy that they introduced the lower end models. Now the commoners get to strut around with Panameras.

actually they will make a Panamera GTS and a Panamera turbo S , both more powerful than the turbo. oh , and diesel and hybrid versions.

That's fine with me, because its all the more easy to piss them off after I rip by them in my small japanese rally car. Also sir lord dooch, we can't all be born to millionaire parents. Your 1800's way of speaking of commoners is quite outdated and rather wack.

Might the early introduction of the V6 suggest that the Panamera isn't selling very well? Or perhaps it demonstrates their greed and killing its exclusivity

It demonstrates Porsche executing their business plan for the model that would have existed since day 1. V6 in Panamera = high volume winner. High volume = profit. The VW 3.6 V6 hauls serious tail.

the Panamera actually sells better than expected. the V6 is released as initially planed, the next to be released are the hybrid and diesel versions.

I believe it is a great idea from a business point of view. This car will now compete with the s class and 7ers as well. It would have ripped the competition to death if it looked prettier. But its great plan from porsche to increase the sales of the car. I think the US is going to love it for its price.

This seems like an odd way to release cars. When the Panamera was (finally) announced, they said they would start with the V8 versions and introduce V6's and hybrids later. But why not release thie basic version at the same time as the S and Turbo models? It makes this version seem 'cheap' rather than making the higher ones more expensive or desirable. They did that with the Cayman too. It's a little confusing. I do like it though. It's really working in that deep red with black details/wheels.

they did that with the Cayenne too , it's a clever trick, people who wait for the car will rush in to buy the expensive models first, making more money right after the release. the car gets good reviews and more people want the car, then they release the base version, creating another wave of demand. it's the halo effect, the superior models make the base models seem better.

That's decent performance from a V6! The Panamera is gorgeous in person...an AWD version with the V6...hmmm...if people really don't care about engine size...I'd say it would cannibalize some sales from the A8.

Design is EXTREMELY important to the average A8 buyer. I sincerely doubt Audi will have many (if any) customers cross-shopping A8's and Pani's...

@ Schizo0223, lots of 911 owners also own the BMW 760i or S 63/65 AMG, some will now get the Panamera instead. the ones who chose the A8 don't chose it for the performance, so they won't cross shop with the Panamera. also the A8 has 5 seats so i guess it's quite safe.

WCF, please check out the details on Porsche official site such as porsche.com.hk and correct the info provided, coz Panamera takes 6.8s from 0-100kmh and 6.1sec for Panamera 4, not 6sec and 5.8sec like you mentioned above

BTW, it's not uncommon for manufacturers to report conflicting performance and horsepower times, as they get confused sometimes in their own translations between km/h-mph and hp/PS/bhp/ch/kW
