BMW 1-Series SuperSport aka M1 to Offer Cosmetic Personalization Program - rumors

BMW may be offering a wide variety of personalization options when the BMW M1 hits the market.  The M1 will be debuted in concept form at the Geneva Motor Show next month.

Oft-reliable 1addicts.com source Scott27 says that the options will include a series of carbon fiber exterior pieces.  This includes a lightweight front splitter, hood, side-skirts, side-mirror caps, rear diffuser, and trunk with spoiler.  A few of these bits were seen on the BMW tii concept during the 2007 Tokyo show.  Further shaving weight should include 18-inch competition wheels.

Exterior design touches include three matte paint colors (black, gray, and white), as well as glossier colors like Techno Violet and the pallette already offered on the M line.  Several racing stripe choices will be available, and the placement of those stripes can be decided by the customer.  Chrome-line exterior will also be on offer.

Interior options include full leather seats and leather with M tri-color patterned Alcantara.  Alcantara can also be used for the headliner.  The M color pattern can also be emblazoned on the door panels or race stripes.  Dash panels can be fashioned out of aluminum or carbon fiber, with door handles and gearshift details in either body color or titanium.

Odds are, if BMW is really going to acquaint the Geneva audience with these customizable options, the production-ready version of the M1 must be around the corner.  Speculation suggests the BMW M1 will go on sale in 2011.

i hope they keep the price down with all those personal options, or it will be in M3 price territory.

Good point. I also want to know- have they fixed the overheating turbo issue that all current BMW turbos face if you actually take the car on the track. Have they sorted out the brakes that warp rotors like crazy. Every m3 I have used on track destroyed rotors. Wish they would just use brembo's.

In 2011 we will see an all new 1-series hatchback. Who will buy next year the "M1" as an old model? The resale value will be lousy, or? The engine in this bodywork comes to late!

No doubts that this will be a great car, with all these options I would take it over M3, this is pure madness...2nd generation of 2002 turbo

I don?t think so. The weight reduction of the 1-series compared to the 3-series is only about 3-4% (maybe due to cheaper and heavier components). There is no real gain in performance by this negligible weight difference...

I agree with that, but this is 1st generation of 1 series M, maybe because of that I would take it over the M3...

Great to see BMW bringing excitement back to its brand. This car will keep me company until the Twin Turbo M3 arrives.
