It is just a glorified Toyota Corolla Auris hatchback with more chrome, leather, silver plastics and fancy front and rear lamps. To make matter worse, it is mechanically based on the Prius that is just went for global safety call. Look at what you have done Toyota

Its powertrain is based on that of the Prius. The Prius was recalled for brake issues. I think you're trying a little too hard to hate on Toyota here.

still looks good though.. although that might change for the actual version that goes on sale..

Why do people hate Lexus so much? Am I the only one here thinking that they actually make very nice cars?
Lexus for Toyota is a bit like the DS line of products for Citro?n. They use nicer materials and have more options than the "regular" models, for a premium price. What is so wrong about that? If someone wants a Toyota with a bit more gear and exclusitivity, he/she can get a Lexus. I think it's perfectly fine, and nice that the customers get to choose what they want.

Well, certaintly its on the other way, citroen tried withDS to be as lexus is for toyota. Even though is not the same since Lexus is a brand, and DS should, but in fact is a more "refined" or stylized variant that has the citroen bagde on the front.
Moreover DS3 and C3 have almost same interior, that from my point of view is one of the nicest

Toyota clearly has a problem, especially in America where its quality has slipped as volumes have boomed, never mind the media exaggerations and safety frenzy. It has grown too big too fast. It has tried to cut costs while maintaining standards, never easy. It could become the new General Motors.
Yet this one is different. You buy a Toyota for its quality. There is no other reason. Toyotas are not fun to drive. They do not give you that warm glow of ownership satisfaction. A Honda or a Volkswagen can be a pet. A Toyota is always an appliance. You buy it because it works, and works very well. And it keeps working.
Toyota will lose some of the faithful customers. We?re looking at some kind of GM style downward spiral. The problem with Toyota and Lexus was that it cars were rubbish. Dull and unworthy.
I hate Toyota arrogance of not admitting that Luxury Export United States or LEXUS is essentially a glorified Toyota. They seriously should learn to make cars like the VW Group.

VWs and Audis are the dullest cars I've ever been in, or at least just as dull as Toyotas are. They aren't even any more fun to drive than Toyotas are. But to be honest, I still like them all. They might be dull on the outside and/or the inside, but they are still very nice cars. If you want to know what a crappy car is like, get in to a Chevrolet Nubira/Lacetti. They get you around, but that's it. My dad got my mom one of those in 2004. It still has some Daewoo badges in it. It's horrible. It came with a cassette player for gods sake! Took me days to rip it off and replace it with a Pioneer mp3 player.
I'm pretty sure you've never even been in a VW or an Audi. If you really want a car that is nice and fun to drive, I'd say get a BMW. Yes, the current models aren't that pretty, but the ride in a BMW is just such a perfect blend of comfort and sportiness that I've never felt in any other car.

nederin a, with your stupidest viewpoint i've ever read, that's why you are the so-called "editor" of car magazine (??) that's never published to the public...for "special subscribers" only? special like special olympic? you've definitely gave us some good laugh...i mean, laugh at you! actually, i think you are one of those stupid kid that still living at mom's basement & wet your pants by just looking at audi cars photos...but actually, you never driven one. or even sit in it. come on, please keep comment & make us laugh!!
February 13, 2010 4:59 pm
clearly you are acting like a kid, it is just so happen i have the best job in the world.
February 14, 2010 1:15 am
LOL... nederina. in your dream. best job of the world? this statement can show how naive you actually are! there are lots of great jobs out there, i don't think you've scored the BEST one. plus, it's in your imagination... i won't say i've got BEST job in the world, i won't say i'm the RICHEST man in the world, i won't say i've own the FASTEST car in the world... so, please, the more you talk, the more it shows you're ONE of the stupidest person in the world. btw, the more comments you posted, the more it shows you're DEFINITELY not an editor or ANY so-call car magazine.

AWSOME !!!!!! Great job lexus !! Amazing curves , design materials !
February 12, 2010 1:16 pm
Would it be fair to say that, Skoda is a poor man Seat ? Seat Is a poor mans VW ? VW Is a poor mans Audi.
The VW Group share platforms, Switches, ECU's ect. But People always have this issue With Toyota & Lexus Why ?
Me personally I could not give a monkeys Who is doing what.
You Should Just Buy What You Like.
We Are All Individuals In The END.
I Just Hate These Teaser Adverts. Just Show The Bloody Car.
February 12, 2010 2:04 pm
VW Group at least gave each of its cars a personality, brand, emotion with passion or individuality. Toyota just produces clones with cutting costs and greed with profit margins. It is something they can't get away from it.
Here's an interesting article I found:

February 12, 2010 2:34 pm
Umm, nederina, what are you talking about? If you look at VW and Audi models, they are all exactly the same, just a different size. Talk about copying. Toyota at least makes cars that look a little different from each other.
And talking about growing too fast, Toyota has been around for ages, growing steadily. Perhaps its a bit new to the US market, and has grown more rapidly there. But in the rest of the world, it has been one of the best selling car makers for decades.
February 12, 2010 2:53 pm
Lexus is positioned against Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Jaguar and Audi. The air is thin up there.
February 14, 2010 9:02 pm
VW, Audi and other of its brand chains may share some of the well engineered platforms, but they're totally different cars, different driving characteristics, and true to their brand identity or DNA. Toyota just put a badge and calls it a Lexus. I want you to go to any new Lexus cars, and take a look at the front door sills, it says Toyota Motor Corporation. GM and Ford used to rule the world but I'm afraid things are about to get less exciting for Toyota if things gets carry on this way.
February 12, 2010 3:36 pm
The thing is that VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda are all pretty much separate car manufacturers, only owned by VW. They have been founded as independent car companies, that have originally had nothing to do with each other. VW has just bought the companies and they share some of their platforms and parts to cut costs and make everything more profitable. But they are all different.
Lexus was founded by Toyota to be its premium model range in the US. It's basically the same company. So why are you complaining? The whole point of Lexus is to make similar cars to what Toyota makes, just make them a little more prestigious.
February 12, 2010 11:51 pm
you obviously haven't driven many cars but your mother's car. grow up! click my profile and see what kinda cars i drive
February 13, 2010 1:58 am
Mmm... Nederina, it's MORE than just put a Lexus badge & called it Lexus. please stop your mom's basement imagination & step out to the real world. you're like a caveman if you make a statement like that.
February 14, 2010 12:25 pm
Oh great, in a reverse to the norm, Lexus has apparently fettled the design to make it look like the New RX. Normally SUVs look like fat compacts with roof rails.
This car was inevitable, and I'm sure it will be the same as all other Lexi (except the LFA) - brilliant but dull. Jeez guys, instead of trying to BE Germans, aspire to BEAT Germans. It would be much more interesting.
February 12, 2010 5:13 pm
I don't get why people hate toyota. Yes, they had alot of epic fails recently, but they are still better that American cars on the market today.
February 12, 2010 5:32 pm
I dont like this, i think it jsut looked confused and bad in general and i dont think that that colour is helping either
February 12, 2010 6:09 pm
Toyota is scum and corrupt to the core!!! Just read this article, more is coming to light what they really are about and have been for years!

If they are planning to make a luxury Prius, they already have that, the HS (I know it isn't based on the Prius, don't comment mean things). That makes its a sporty Prius, which is completely ironic. So what is the point?
February 12, 2010 8:00 pm
The Prius' engine can't even compare with the BMW's in terms of performance, so basically Lexus is targeting themselves...and Toyota. WHY?
February 12, 2010 8:05 pm
Givew me a break and go get your bmw-1 worst ever luxury hatchback in history !Why you bother making double-triplle posts on this car ? Jealous????
February 12, 2010 9:07 pm
And Mini is a Entry Level BMW and Maybach is a Gloorafied Merc and Jag is an Aston Wanna be and Infiniti is just overpriced Datsun bits Kia and Hyundai share everything except sheet metal ,Honda/Acura.... The List Probably goes on.
They all do it, sharing components, platforms , drivetrains, designs. Why do people want to bag a manufacturer for trying something different or wanting to compete in a diferent segment? competition/choice is good for all of us. If you don't like it don't buy it or even read about it. Sure critisism is fine but one should appreciate the effort and the dollars that go into providing interesting new Product for us REAL Carfans to Appreciate. I would like to see it go a bit quicker than a Prius though. Put the Hybrid Camry Drivetrain into it (and make sure it handles)!

Bit Rich from someone who calls himself "Ferrariguy".
Bet he has a garage full of 'em.....
February 14, 2010 8:03 pm
im really excited about this car! its the nicest affordable (?) car you can get to avoid the central london congestion charge. Toyota Prius' are everywhere in Central, and Lexus will make this car more upper class inside and out to compete with A3 and 1 series. I hope its a mini IS thats more fun to drive! Lets hope its not more than either the A3 or 1 series, if not i might very seriously get one! it will save me ?8 a day in charges!
