A documentary about the world of formula one is set to hit the big screen.

Modern efforts to make a movie about the sport have famously foundered, and so a trio of producers have come together to turn out a feature documentary.

The producers - Spitfire Documentary Films, Diamond Docs and Flat-Out Films - intend their film to span the history and evolution of the sport.

Spitfire was involved with Martin Scorsese's renowned Bob Dylan documentary 'No Direction Home'.

"Our goal is to achieve a big-screen action documentary experience with all of the style and charisma of the era," said Flat-Out Films' Michael Shevloff.

Interviews for the documentary, which reportedly has the support of F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone, are already underway.

Said Spitfire's Nigel Sinclair: "We are truly honoured to make this film, to tell this story which has never been told."

Unfortunately I don't have high hopes for this film. I would like to, but any positivity is ruined by the thought that this is just a scheme Eccelstone's for a cash grab... Actually, one good thing that could come of it, would be that it could bring back a GP to the states! That would be awesome. And honestly, I think that it would be best if it weren't in Indianapolis. I think there is a better chance for survival in a NorthEASTern State, maybe NY, or a Southwestern one (Cali). Positive thinking!

i fully agree. an F1 feature film just fills me with dread. and this concept sounds like just a doco, so may be a mega snorefest. indianapolis was boring. vegas or cali could be good.

@ Marvelus: Oops, got caught up in my frustrations...ha @fudge: A desert Nevada track would be pretty awesome, and would they ever get a lot of coverage there! Though, I don't really like the idea of the Vegas scene for F1, it's already diva enough...
