A BMW tipster has posted new information, and a previously-unseen teaser image, of the upcoming BMW M1 to the 1er forum 1addicts.com.  Anonymous member and habitual BMW info leaker "Scott26" says the car will better represent the motorsports division with new aerodynamics from front to back.

The often reliable source says the car will be heavily modified at the front to provide "a more muscular appearance."  Some of the changes indicated include air intakes in front of the wheels to help cool the six-piston brakes, a trapezoid grille between the intakes, and new headlights.  BMW's Active Aerodynamics system will be installed on the car to adjust the air flow when the car is in different situations.

At the back, BMW fans will notice a wider rear end marked by a "classic 'Ducktail'" spoiler.  Larger wheel arches will also be seen, as will open ducts at the rear diffuser.  As expected, M-branded quad exhaust tailpipes will get noticed.  A carbon fiber roof will help shave off weight from the standard 1-Series.

The tipster suggests that 18-inch wheels will be the best size for the new upcoming BMW M1.  Five-spoke wheels will be standard, with competition wheels also expected.  "Scott26" included an image of one wheel with his post.

The new BMW M1 will likely be released as a 2012 model year car.

Too much skirtings for my likings. An M twin turbo straight-six you say? I bet this baby has more torque than the M3's V8.

well i'd certainly hope so, considering the stock 135i has more torque than the m3's v8...

BMW has put the bumper from an Audi on upside down.

I hope they can channel the 2002ti, e30 M3, e9 CSL, or at least e89 Z4 with the production variant.

What the eff!?!? talk about a pocket rocket. In related news, this car is already sold out for it's entire production.

Rubbish. Thats the sort of marketing propaganda that car makers want you to believe. A high volume car with minimal modifications from it's stock form will not be sold out before production is confirmed let alone announced. I just spoke to a BMW dealer, who responded with a laugh and the comment: "There will be no shortage of a M tuned 1 series if there is one"

Looks good, but i think 135is is more than enough, there is no need for M version for the 1s

i think there is more need for a 1 series M than a X5/6 series M.

besides, if manufacturers would only build cars that people need, the world would be full of Corollas and nothing else.

I bet it has wonderful power, great handling, BUT will feel very heavy on the track and will eat tires, brake pads, and rotors like there is no tomorrow.

nice. one thing they should also consider is more weight saving. as well, i think BMW will very much reconsider using the name M1 on this car. i think going with the tii concept's name or something will be more pleasing.

Not a big fan of the 1-series. I find that it resembles a bath tub with a roof. But this I really like.

Does anyone else notice the car in the bottom left? I can't tell if that is the face lifted 3, or the NEXT 6-series!

Can anyone confirm?
