Last round of testing

Our spies have caught the Audi A1 undergoing a final round of testing before it is unveiled to the media next week.

While there isn't anything new to see - since the car was already caught undisguised during a photo shoot with Justin Timberlake - we can get a glimpse of the LED daytime running lights and 'contrasting curve' roof.

Inside, the car will feature "a wide range of possibilities for individual designs" including Wasabi Green accents. Elsewhere, the dash has been designed to resemble an "aircraft wing with the engines (aka air vents) suspended from it."

Under the hood, engines options will likely include a 1.2-liter TFSI with 63kW (86 PS) and 160 Nm, a 1.4-liter TFSI packing 90kW (122 PS) and 200 Nm, and a 1.6-liter TDI churning out 77kW (105 PS) and 250 Nm of torque. If that doesn't sound very interesting, Audi is expected to unveil the S1 in February 2011. According to initial reports, the S1 will feature a 132kW (180 PS) engine and a seven-speed S-Tronic transmission.

The A1 will go on sale this summer and Audi predicts 80,000 units will be sold by the end of the year.

Stay tuned to WCF for full coverage of the A1's media unveiling next week.

Looks like a 'fashion' car. Similar to the DS3, 500 and Mini cooper.

Yes! I agree. Cars that are pleasing to the eye should be banned.

Will really depend on pricing and MPGs.

More like pricing and styling. It won't compete with the Mini because it will be in a different size class. 500 yes. Abarth competitor? We'll see what the S1 and SE1 end up like ;)

I don't like the side profile of the rear portion at all. The roof ends where the rear axle is. I think it should have a steeper rear window, thus a longer roof. It just looks like that it has like a 70/30 front/rear weight ratio. Other than that, I think it'll be very good. Although it is a little boring that many car manufacturers use almost a 100% copy front fascia on every model they sell. It's ok to have some sort of "family look" on the cars, but it's so boring that all the cars look almost exactly the same from the front.

Besides contradicting yourself, I wish I had your other super skill. The ability to judge weight distribution of cars based upon ten or so spy shots. If I had that, I'd be hot property in F1 and other motorsport circles.

this is never going to compete with the mini, the mini brand will not be replaced with this sh1t, its a so so design that will sell but if the model was deleted in 3 yrs time no one would give a f4uck like the a2....audi was a pioneer of modern car design but not anymore the havent evolved it, missing some of ur best designers??? i think they are in korea these days arent they?
