Peugeot 207 S16 Special Edition Announced for UK
Peugeot 207 S16 Special Edition

Rally styling, city car performance

Peugeot has unveiled the 207 S16 special edition for the United Kingdom.

Based on the 207 Sport 1.6 VTi three-door, the S16 was created to celebrate Kris Meeke's win of the 2009 IRC drivers' title. As such, the car has rally-inspired graphics (which mimic those found on Meeke's IRC winning 207 S2000 rally car), a 207 RC Cup bodykit (with front and rear spoilers, aerodynamic side skirts, and a faux rear diffuser), and an interior badge signed by Meeke. Other styling touches include a mesh grille, dark tinted windows, and 17-inch Hockenheim alloy wheels.

Despite the racy appearance, the S16 does not feature any performance upgrades. Saddled with an anemic 1.6-liter VTi petrol engine, that produces 120 bhp (kW), the 207 runs from 0-62 mph in 10.7 seconds and has a top speed of 125 mph. On the up side, the engine returns a combined 47.1 mpg and has an emissions rating of 139 g/km.

Priced from £14,695 (OTR), only 250 special editions will be produced.

Peugeot's 207 has dominated the Intercontinental Rally Challenge for the last three years, whether on the gravel roads of Scotland or the tarmac of San Remo.

To recognise this achievement and that of Kris Meeke in winning the 2009 IRC drivers' title, Peugeot has created the Special Edition 207 S16.

Based on the 207 Sport 1.6 VTi 3dr, only 250 examples of this car will be produced. The S16 adds to the already comprehensive standard equipment of the 207 sport model:

  • Full 207 RC Cup bodykit comprising front and rear spoilers, side skirts and a pseudo rear diffuser
  • 17" Hockenheim Alloy Wheels
  • SP Sports mesh grille
  • Dark tinted rear windows from the 207 GTi model

  • Optional free of charge vinyl rally graphics which mimic those found on Kris Meeke's IRC winning 207 S2000 rally car.

The 207 S16 benefits from over £1,200 worth of additional specification compared to a standard Sport model and is priced at £14,695.

To further enhance the appeal of the 207 S16 an optional leather interior is also available priced at £684.21. It is available in black with either black or silver Grey stitching.

10,7seconds??? In other countries the 1,6VTI takes the 207 0-62 in 9,6seconds, very strange. When i saw the title for this article i thought Peugeot had put the 200bhp 1,6THP in it, because it's coming to the DS3 too.

This is just the same as the Citroen 'C4 by Loeb'. Just a half-arsed rally paintjob and a plaque. It's pathetic. And that's the most blatantly useless non-diffuser I have ever seen. Those wheels aren't even unique to this LE, just a pre-ticked option box. This is just so un-sporty, especially as it's just a 206 with more weight. And a truly terrible advert. Just make a lighter 208 Peugeot. And make it look like the SR1. Not this liposuctioned freak.

Typical peugeot, put a wig on the car and leave its balls at home. They need to bring back the 306 gti6 or the 205 t16. Its bout time their cars had some of that lion fury again!
