American tuners SpeedFactory claim to have set a new record with the SpeedFactory 426 Charger.  The car sprinted to the quarter-mile mark at the South Georgia Motorsports Park in 9.453 seconds at 145.38 mph.

The company claims this time to be the fastest ever for a car riding on a Chrysler-built LX/LC platform, including the recently-produced Chrysler 300Cs, Dodge Challenger, Charger, or Magnum.

Based on a 2006 Charger, the tuner car uses a 426 HEMI with V7 YSI supercharger increasing power to 900 horsepower.  With no interior, the car weighs about 3,750 lbs (1700 kg).

"With the introduction of the Drag Pack Challengers, we knew that records would be broken, and to achieve this with a modified stock vehicle that still utilizes the factory components makes this even more exciting to us and our partners," said Mark Brucks, general manager for SpeedFactory.  "We believe there is more that can be done to produce even faster times."

You can check out a video of the car's run right here.

SpeedFactory 426 Charger Again Sets World Record Quarter Mile Time for Chrysler LX/LC Platform Vehicles

Atlanta, GA, January 27, 2010- On January 23, 2010, SpeedFactory's 426 Charger completed the quarter mile in 9.453 seconds with a trap speed of 145.38 mph at South Georgia Motorsports Park in Valdosta, Georgia. According to records kept by the LXForums.com moderators, SpeedFactory bested all previous quarter mile times set by actual production LX/LC-platform cars- modern Dodge Chargers, Challengers, Magnums and Chrysler 300Cs. SpeedFactory driver Eddie Rosa piloted the Charger.

SpeedFactory, in collaboration with partners Landmark Dodge Chrysler Jeep, Vortech Superchargers and Paramount Performance, built this car from a 2006 Dodge Charger platform utilizing a unique combination of heavily modified stock components. The SpeedFactory R&D (Research and Development) Charger is a test platform for high horsepower technology destined to power SpeedFactory's production vehicles.

A GEN III 426 HEMI stroker motor is boosted by a Vortech centrifugal-style V-7 YSi-trim supercharger and is controlled through factory electronics, producing over 900 HP. The car retains modified factory components: transmission, IRS differential with 1000HP half shafts, suspension and shocks. A curb weight of 3,750 pounds was achieved by removing the interior.

"We are all very proud of this achievement, which showcases our continued commitment to the development of our brand and ultimately carries over into our customers' vehicles," said Mark Brucks, general manager, SpeedFactory. "With the introduction of the Drag Pack Challengers, we knew that records would be broken, and to achieve this with a modified stock vehicle that still utilizes the factory components makes this even more exciting to us and our partners. We believe there is more that can be done to produce even faster times."

"The Vortech V-7 YSi-trim supercharger supports up to 1200HP with 78 percent efficiency," said Gil Cormaci, director, sales and marketing for Vortech Engineering. "We are very pleased to be associated with SpeedFactory and Landmark Dodge Chrysler Jeep. The application of our YSi-trim compressor to this HEMI Charger was done with the highest expertise, resulting in this impressive time and speed."

meh, usual american bull. Here those times are done in 4cyl cosworth 2.0L engines in 1968 cars with a bunch of stock parts.

Need proof? http://www.dragtimes.com/Ford-Escort-Timeslip-11253.html

Even a truck almost did that time over here, and got the world record, byt we don't bullshit all over the place over here. Need proof? http://www.youtube.com/user/maxrracing#p/u/2/5_cNrYPs5JM

bennymamo:

Thought you Brits would have figured out the English language by now. Try reading the second paragraph.

I'm guessing that little cosworth 2.0 wasn't pushing a 3,750lb Chrysler/Dodge 4 door through the quarter.

i'm not a brit. I'm from malta - so get the facts straight mr :) and yes, we know how drag cars should be built... powerful and light...

WHat are you babbling about Benny. The car is big, heavy and can fit alot of luggage or people without stripping and still do at least 11 seconds. It might big and might have a big engine but these kinds of cars have their own reward, you don't feel like you're driving a go-kart and also if you get in a crash odds are the other guy willl get more damage dealt to him.

:( the point is that these are drag races!... I don't think you see it from my viewpoint, if you're Drag racing, it SHOULD be stripped and made lighter than just standard stripping! Agreed it has it's rewards, cause even getting a good time in a go kart leaves you smiling like a clown, but i don't see this article as THAT newsworthy! See what i mean?

without an interior is weighs 1700 kg?? dear lord...what do they make this out of? ROCKS!?

You realise the charger weighs almost 1900kgs stock. With just an interior stripping it lost almost 200kgs. Down from 4000lbs~ to around 3600lbs, its not bad, remember it uses an E-class chassis and despite being older its not lightweight.

What an ugly piece of American @#$%!!!! I think Americans enjoy going backwards with regards to motoring

Xanavi23
February 4, 2010 11:15 am
Using old formulas like a large motor thats already placed in a large car and posting 9s with old methods(Supercharging) is getting the job done anyway you slice it and only a fool would consider it going backwards. Also given this American engine is soo big, and understresses compared to other kinds of motors, it can run all day long with the proper cooling.

Given how much competition there is in the states in grass roots and professional drag racing, thats a moderately big statement. Cars like this really aren't too rare in the states.
