Renault Wind Coupe Convertible Breaks Cover

Renault Wind Coupe Convertible Breaks Cover
Renault Wind CC - 02.02.2010

Renault will introduce a new coupe-convertible at the Geneva Motor Show, and we don't mean the Megane CC.  The two-seat Renault Wind, roughly the same size as the outgoing Peugeot 206CC, will join the four-seat Megane drop-top when they are introduced side-by-side next month.

Sales of the Wind could begin before the summer starts.  Autocar is reporting that the Wind will be launched with the 100-horsepower 1.2-liter engine from the Twingo GT, and the 1.6-liter 133-horsepower engine from the Renaultsport Twingo.  Front-end styling will be similar to the Twingo, but different.  The car has a new bumper, and a recessed hood.

At 3830mm the Wind is 5mm shorter than the Peugeot 206CC, scheduled to be discontinued this year, and 207mm shorter than the 207CC.  The Megane CC will likely come in around 4350mm.

It has a roof that folds to an open position in 12 seconds.  The luggage compartment will remain the same size, at 270 liters, and will not be disturbed by the top.  This is quite a bit larger than the Twingo hatchback.

Renault says the car will be readily available, and will be "affordable for everyone."  More will be revealed about the Renault Wind and the Renaul Megane CC on March 2 in Geneva.

RENAULT TO UNVEIL WIND AT GENEVA

In a World Première at the Geneva Motor Show on 2 March, Renault will unveil its brand-new coupé-roadster - Wind.

Wind is a two-seater coupé-roadster of 3.83 metres in length which features a highly innovative way of opening up. With its novel electric roof that pivots open in just 12 seconds, Wind brings a completely different take on a car for drivers who enjoy open top motoring.

Wind is aimed at motorists who lust after a car that is not only distinctive and compact, but also convertible yet practical enough for everyday use.

Although Wind's compact dimensions make it a nimble machine in and about town, it is the only car of its class to provide just as much luggage space (270dm3 VDA) whatever the position of the roof.

True to Renault's brand signature "Drive the Change", Wind makes passion affordable for everyone.

Wind will be unveiled at a press conference on the Renault stand at the Geneva Motor Show at 4:15pm on 2 March.

I'm sensing a MINI Coupe design inspiration for this cute French number. Shame about the name!

What's wrong with the name? It's ok I think. by the way, Renault already shown a small 3-seater roadster called Wind in 2004. This car is a nice one. The conception is (sorry Skoda) simply clever. I only dislike the big sideshapes with this small windows and the high rear. This only shows that a small car was combined with a sportscars hood.

Something hopeless there, a mixed bag of feelings with that Wind like it was/is with Opel/Vauxhall Tigra.

This car's like a dog: if a guy buys one this small, everyone will think he's gay. I don't like convertible city cars anyway. They're usually just a flexy version of an already slightly girly car that has no real practical use, whilst not having the low-slung wind-in-your-hair convertible image they strive for, because they're too tall and short. This does not look like a Mazda MX-5 beater. Cute and French, yes. Sporty, no.
