No. The current is now. The future is yet to happen.
I expect the looks of this to change but the engine to likely stay. If anyone can be trusted to pull of a massive change in engine technology it's probably BMW.

This car is one and only reason for me to like BMW. If they don't change the outgoeing model of that concept, I will be really sorry couse I have no money to buy one.. :D Okey still if they add metal (or carbonfibre) roof and make those side windows smaller I'll be very jelous for guys who drive those...
Just so damn goodlooking car. In my mind, first from BMW. (:

Interestingly enough, I was JUST reading about the car in a magazine about an hour ago, looked at it and said, 'wouldn't it be nice if they actually made a production version of this car, oh well, back to reality' and now this, awesome~

Did i heard 3-cylinder disel engine and two electric units - 3,7 l/100km and performance of m3 ? If it`s possible im starting to save money now.

of course it's possible... for a few miles until the batteries are out and you'll drive on the 3 cylinder engine only.

I can't wait. Now we just have to wait and see what the production version looks like. I hope they keep the price near the M3 but no higher than a loaded 6.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!! Wish they could make this car a bit sooner, might look a bit outdated by then.

I would expect this to be priced to rival the Audi R8. It certainly won't be cheap!

2013 production will give BMW plenty of time to completely screw up the final production version of the design. By then it will look as uninspired as the rest of their line-up.

I need to have one. One of the most amazing concepts I've seen yet, I wish, however they keep the same design since all around just looks sick.

I agree to all comments above! And I'd love to start saving money now for it. :D

Wow...this is great news. I was always hoping for a PHEV from BMWs. But honestly I think BMW should be able to deliver better Fuel Effiency figures than that.
Lets compare the Fuel Efficency:
BMW Vision: 3.76 liters/100km (62.6 mpg)
Chevy Volt: 1.65 liters/100km (142.6 mpg)
BMW has to do better than that...Dont get me wrong guys. I'm a BMW fan myself...but this is not impressive. Maybe they have to rethink their charging strategy, either Battery Swapping or a Flexy Fuel Microturbine Serial Plug-In HyBrid.

Hanssolo58, it depends how you calculate that mileage. and i somehow think the Volt will probably, maybe not be quite as fast and exciting to drive as the BMW. but i'm sure the Volt will look better than the final version of the BMW.

dont get me wrong but i think future comes from Mercedes-Benz inventions , more or less most of modern car comes from they research...

You think what I know is not. Sure Mercedes is not behind in the game of technology but don't kid yourself to think BMW is not constantly raising the bar.
February 2, 2010 8:23 pm
This is the first time BMW have "moved the bar" in a while. Depending on the type of tech, it seems to be coming from Audi or M-B.

Scratchy996, I got the mileage figures from a friend who did a comparative study on a few PHEVs (he is currently developing a new Serial Hybrid Vehicle for an Asian Auto Manufacturer).
According to him there is a specific test method (governed by a specific Body) to determine the average Fuel Efficiency figures of these vehicles.
I would love to see them both on the road soon. I just hope that BMW improves their fuel effciency figures before they start their mass production.
I also hope they come up with a very efficient Serial Hybrid Plug-In version for their 6 Series Model range. I just love the BMW 6 Series.
