Pininfarina Teases Alfa Romeo Spider Concept Sketch for 2010 Geneva Debut

Pininfarina Teases Alfa Romeo Spider Concept Sketch for 2010 Geneva Debut

Pininfarina turns 80 years-old this year. As part of celebrating this important milestone the company will unveil this two-seater spider concept pictured here at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show in March. It will be presented as a tribute to its long relationship with Alfa Romeo. The unveiling coincides with Alfa's 100th anniversary so it is doubly fitting.

Apart from the obvious not much else is said or revealed about the car. But from this solitary sketch it can be noted that the current 8C Spider has some serious styling competition. The long sloping bonnet, two-door configuration and short rear overhangs are the main signs of a classic roadster. Whether this traditionalist approach will be kept intact with a soft folding roof remains to be seen.

Perhaps the Pininfarina/Alfa Romeo relationship is about to receive a new life. Hopefully the concept is as good, or even better than this sketch suggests.

A 2-seater spider on Alfa Romeo basis, which will be unveiled on March 2nd at the Pininfarina stand, thus starting the celebrations for the 80th anniversary

Turin January 29th, 2010 - Pininfarina discloses the first official image of its new concept car, world debut on March 2nd at the Geneva Motor Show.

The Pininfarina new concept is meant to be part of the tradition of successful spiders born from the relationship with Alfa Romeo, among the most significant and long-lasting ones in the automobile history, and interprets the innovative vision of an antique theme strongly present in the Pininfarina roots, the 2-seater spider.

An iconic object that, binding with an ideal thread the past and the future of Pininfarina, starts the celebrations for its 80th anniversary, representing at the same time an homage to the Alfa Romeo 100th birthday.

tough for Pininfarina to make an even better looking car than the 8C Spider and Alfa Spider, those 2 cars is just gorgeous, drop dead gorgeous.

Like all Alfas this one is going to be a stunner. 8C aside, finally a rear-wheel drive Alfa!

It's funny you say that, I was thinking the same thing. This sketch doesn't look like a FWD car, but I doubt the new spider would be RWD (sadly).

A RWD Alfa could happen. Chrysler needs new RWD replacements for the 300C and others. Such a platform would help big Alfas and Lancias sell and might also see use at Maserati.

Honestly, I'm reminded of a Saturn Sky, which actually isn't a bad looking vehicle at all.
