VW to Introduce R GmbH Performance Group at Geneva Motor Show

VW to Introduce R GmbH Performance Group at Geneva Motor Show
Volkswagen Golf R - 26.01.2010

At the European driving event for the Volkswagen Golf R, company representatives confirmed that they would be setting up a new performance orientated division.  Intended to compete with similar divisions at other automakers, an unnamed executive told Inside Line, "BMW has its M, Mercedes has AMG, and our sibling Audi has Quattro. This new R division will be our Quattro."

R GmbH, a limited liability company, will be set up inside the Volkswagen factory in Wolfsburg, Germany.  In addition to representing the sportiest models in the VW range, it will be an expanded version of the VW Individual programme, which currently offers sporty add-on accessories and styling components under the R-Line brand in Europe.  Some of these parts and accessories are currently available in North America through the VW GearStore, but it's only a small portion of the entire catalogue.  It is not clear if the R-Line will be available worldwide.

The new company will sell the 266-horsepower Volkswagen Golf R, and the similarly-powered Volkswagen Scirocco R.  The rumored Jetta R Sport would probably also be sold through the new company.

The division will be officially confirmed at the Volkswagen presentation during the Geneva Motor Show in March.

havent they been doing this for a few years now? or is it just "official" now? BTW Quattro is not Audi's performance line its their AWD counterpart. Audis performance line is their "S_"series or even better their "RS" series although not to be confused with "S" line which is simply sporty package look neccessarily performance add-ons.

Get your facts straight before you post. Quattro is responsible for making S and RS series.

relax "Kimbo-Mice", its not like i do a google search before every post i make. i stated that simple because quattro meaning "4" is tagged in ALL Audi cars with AWD whether its Haldex or Torsen, not just their performance models, their FWD couterpart do not have the quattro badge. Now I dont consider an A4 2.0T with "quattro" to be their performance model car, or their miniSUV Q5 "quattro" for that matter, you see where iam going with this. so there was some truth in what i said i just didnt know that quattro was its own brand.

i was hoping they would at least come up with a more original performance division name. "R" just seems so... generic. even the logo reminds me of... http://www.cartype.com/pics/7749/full/jaguar_xfr_r-emblem_10.jpg jaguar's "R" emblem on the xf-r

quattro Gmbh IS in fact Audi's performance division. They are the ones who produce the RS models and the individual programme cars. Not to be confused with Quattro as Audi uses it for 4wheel drive.
