The new trend in european compacts should be called "Euro Fat". All the contemporary compacts look like they're built around the same sketch with different details! Everybody is ditching any hard lines they had in favor of the new "melted cheese" look, which has the advantage of looking plain enough to not disturb any potential audience while reducing sheet metal manufacturing costs! Everybody wants a piece of the general population!
The modern compact car is bland, soulless, without any personality apart from the one imposed by the logo and some random design details that randomly change every 4 years. Unfortunately, Alfa conforms to this principle, probably in a desperate attempt to increase sales.
Thank you, European compact manufacturers for your continuous dedication to boring design! Dacia has more design cues that you sorry bunch of sleep inducing designers!

It actually looks like a rally car if they put four fog lamps on the bonnet. Nice fat car.

@ShinyG, you make it sound like this is a new trend, but it's been going on for a very long time. All designers are inspired by the same things and have to conform to the same regulations and cater for the tastes of ever broader audiences, so no wonder they come up with similar designs and solutions.

@ShinyG
ha ha? "Euro Fat"!
In Europe, skinny people but fat cars, (somewhere else ? mention no names) Skinny cars but fat people!
I have to agree with some of your points about Euro car design getting a bit dull.
Then again I think the some of the new Korean designs are getting rather good (and remaining skinny!)
