Will have 700 hp and 1000 Nm of torque

New details have emerged about Pagani's next-generation supercar, the C9.

During an interview with Argentina Auto Blog, Horacio Pagani confirmed the Zonda-replacing C9 will be launched towards the end of 2010. It will feature a 6.0-liter V12 Mercedes-Benz AMG engine with 700 hp and 1000 Nm of torque, which means the C9 will be almost as powerful as the Zonda R (which churns out 750 hp and 710 Nm of torque).

According to Horacio Pagani, the C9 "is a completely new car from concept, weight distribution, materials and dynamics." It will have 3770 new parts, a carbon-titanium chassis, specially developed Pirelli tires, and Bosch electronics. More importantly, the car will be able to meet U.S. crash safety standards and California's strict emission laws.

Production will likely be limited to 40 units a year, with a base price of roughly €900,000 ($1,265,000 USD).

Besides talking about the C9, Pagani stated 'normal' Zonda production will cease in September - but orders are still coming in for one-off versions and the Zonda R. In theory, the Zonda could live on for another three years.

Pagani never ceases to amaze me, I was impressed by the 20ms shift time on the Zonda R. This is really impressive.

That's a rather huge increase in torque. Turbos? Electric motors? A missprint? Or perhaps its one of these contraptions connected to the drive wheels: http://school.discoveryeducation.com/clipart/images/ani-mouse.gif

I cannot wait for this. The Zonda is one of my favorites. The way I see it, the more Zonda the better.

If they got 1000Nm without turbos, that is quite an achievement.

surely turbos, it also helps with emissions. anyway, screw the new McLaren, this is the new performance benchmark until the F70 arrives.

You mean the new McLaren which will cost a third as much? I love Pagani and they've surely shaken up the supercar order in the last few years, but the competition is getting more fierce.

carbon-titanium chasis and 700hp huh?????? wow, i can really see where the money is going with this one. There are alot of what i would call over priced exotics from lamborghini, ferrari ext but this thing is the real deal. hearing a turbo or two spool on this engine to lets say an 8K or 9K RPM would be heaven but the NA motor from the zonda r sounds fantastic too

700 horses is great, but what about the torque this thing has, that's amazing.

the world would be a duller place without paganis since car and supercar makers are run by big corporations

Let's hope they change the design 'cause I am getting bored of this pagani design & maybe they could make their own engine instead of Mercedes V12, which gives out 700 bhp is nice.

Silly kid, if you know anything about the company you would know why they use Mercedes engines, also why it is the ONLY company not owned by Mercedes using their engines. Also why would they use anything else? Mercedes is one of the most reliable high performance engine manufacturer. Also one of the best F1 engine makers. They have the capabilities and know how to give the Zonda whatever engine it requires to stay the best.

chris25, this isn't a standard Mercedes engine, or a tuned Mercedes engine, this engine is specially developed by AMG for the Zonda. you can't get this engine in any Mercedes. developing an engine for a car that is built in such small numbers is something special and that's what the customers want, exclusivity. also the Mercedes engines gives the car some racing pedigree.

Their carbon fiber titanium actually was designed specifically for their car building process. Check out the shots of how their cars are created in this exclusive photos...it is simply stunning http://speedhunters.com/search.aspx?q=pagani

This car is the devil embodied on 4 wheels. Nothing compares to the Zonda. Going to be the King for ever. I think until we start having flying cars this car does not need to change it's styling, it is timeless like a Rolex, Horatio got it right from the start.

Zonda is apparently starting to use the current 65 AMG engine, the one available currently in the Black Series SL

This signals the fact that the 65 engine is getting rolled out of production of regular MBs soon. Just as was the case with the previous Zonda V12, which had powered the 140 and 129 MBs. This is why Mercedes is comfortable making engines available to an outside automotive outfit such as Zonda.

The Zonda is one of the amazing cars I have seen yet and I would love to see it manufactured for quite some time, but if Pagani is confident in the next one, it inspires a lot of confidence. let's see what he and his team can cook up and make us forget about the Zonda!
