Honda HSV-010 GT Officially Unleashed: Initial Specs Announced
Honda HSV-010 GT

Honda has released new details on the race car replacement to the NSX.  The Honda HSV-010 GT will use a 3.4-liter naturally-aspirated V8 engine producing "500 or more" horsepower, and "392 or more" Nm of torque, according to a press release.

The Honda Sports Velocity car will race in the GT500 class of the Super GT Series in place of the NSX.  The previous model helped Daisuke Ito and Ralph Firman take the 2007 Drivers' Championship, and led Autobacs Racing Team Aguri to the 2007 Teams' Championship.

At 4.675 x 2.000 meters, the new race car is 65 mm longer and 100 mm wider than the outgoing model.  Height of the new Honda has not been disclosed.  Wheelbase is 170 mm longer at 2.7 meters.

Had Honda decided to continue production of the Honda/Acura NSX, the HSV-010 GT would have been the next-generation model.  However, the NSX was cancelled by Honda in an effort by the company to focus on mass-produced models instead of those manufactured in limited numbers.

Honda's newest car will get its first test at the Suzuka Circuit on March 21.

Such a shame there's no production version of this. Hopefully if Honda does well enough in GT500 that it'll motivate them to do a run of street versions. They've already done all the legwork anyway.

the production version was too weak, they want to tweak it more and then they will release it as a limited edition model.

Beautiful, and with out a doubt a mean ass race car. This could easily be a street legal car, just reduce the fenders and there you go.

That's the problem...a motor that revs that high is useless on the street for the most part. I had the M5 and the M6 and had issue with the revs needed to really enjoy the car. The GT-R I just sold was great with lots of low-end power. It was very fun to drive around town. I just picked up an LP560 and my only wish is that it had even shorter gearing although it's a huge improvement over the 05 Gallardo I had a few years ago.

Realistically speaking, no one in their right mind expects this thing to come with the same V8 from GT500. The power delivery of race motors is quite different... remember, those things are built to spend all day at WOT, and require frequent rebuilds because the tolerances are so strict. Plus, remember that Honda has already developed a V10 motor for this car. The only reason the race version comes with a V8 is to make it eligible for the class.

Seriously if they smoothen the fenders to make it more classy that thing is one hell of a car. It looks darn aerodynamic and light weight. Make it light and tone down the 3.4l v8 to give 420+ hp and hell it'll be a winner still. more importantly... SELL it Honda!!!!!!

I wonder what this would look like as a road car. SUPER GT cars, remember, are silhouette racers - look at the Nissan R35 GT500 compared to the road-going version, much lower, like the body has sunk right down into the car - so as a road car, it may just look like the Acura NSX Concept car that I really didn't like, particularly at the back with those 'RX-7'-cum-'FT-86' tail lights. Because the headlights are only as high as the wheels, this thing is a symphony of evil. When you mentally legalise it, however, it begins to look quite different. Also, looks aren't what win races. The competition in SUPER GT is so very tight (partly due to success ballast), last year in the Final Round at Motegi, the old NSX won the race, but a Lexus SC won the championship after the series-leading GT-R got a puncture and dropped far back to lose the championship in the LAST race!

"If you build it, they will come." "Naturally-aspirated!" Let's show them turbo's how it done! The Honda HSV-010 is my ultimate dream car. I'm saving that first picture and using it for my computers new wallpaper, too. But can you image what this sexy thing would look like in red? Or championship white? They have to build this. It'd be an absolute sin if it doesn't go into production!

Most of you can keep dreaming. A car like that has absolutely nothing in common with a street legal car. Street car would end up being different in every possible way.
