Next-generation 9-5 wagon spied in winter testing

For Saab fans right now, it's hard to get excited about the next iteration of the 9-5 model given the uncertainty regarding the brand itself.

GM, which owns the Swedish brand, is looking to either sell it off or, if that isn't possible, liquidating the brand altogether - bad news indeed. The company issued a statement recently saying there will be no more announcements regarding Saab until there is some news to report. One can read that to mean that there is very little hope of salvaging the brand any more as offers from buyers continue to fall through.

But still life goes on, at least, for the engineers at work on the next-generation 9-5 wagon, if there is to be one. Here are the latest spy shots of that model doing some winter testing.

Possible engines for the next 9-5 model include a 2.0 liter turbo petrol/gasoline powerplant with about 210 hp. For Europe, the model may also come with a 2.0 liter diesel and a 2.8 liter V6 turbo, while for the North American market there could be a 3.6 liter V6.

Of course, all this seems less likely to ever come to fruition. How sad for the storied Swedish brand. But at least Saab the aircraft manufacturer is still in business.

I really don't think that GM will shut down SAAB and that's it with the brand, they just keep all this drama going on to keep the atention of the fans and possible buyers, after all the GM is starting to feel good, OPEL is selling big and they have incomes to develop also the SAAB brand .. after all. We will live and see, anyway .. i don't believe this, a brand with tradition and original design is about to be shut down and some chinese 2 cent cars are becoming available ... it's unbelievebable !!

if they still shut it down despite all the interested parties then it suggests they want to shut it down for some reason- maybe to destroy some competition.

According to the Swedish board of transportation it is a Holden from 2008-12 with 154 kW (210 ps). It has a kerb weight of 1640 kg, length of 4827 mm and it is 1792 mm wide. Maximum load weight 445 kg and it runs of petrol. The Holden bit is a common Saab trick..
