Lamborghini Jota Murcielago Successor Spied Winter Testing in Lap Land

The Jota will be lighter and come with a direct-injection V12 engine with around 700 hp

Here are some of the very first spy shots of the Lamborghini Murcielago successor in full body form.

The supercar, allegedly to be renamed the Jota, was caught doing some winter testing in sub-zero temperatures on a VW/Audi test track somewhere in Scandinavia. Our spy photographer reports that the temperature was around -25C (-13F).

The Jota is expected to be about the same size as the Murcielago - as judged by our spy photographer. But it will come with some serious upgrading, including a new V12, direct-injection engine with around 700 hp. The successor to the Murcielago will also be lighter, substituting the current steel tube latticework for an aluminum space frame. Body paneling will be made of carbon fiber and the doors and roof possibly out of aluminum.

A new all-wheel drive system from Swedish supplier Haldex is also rumored.

Design-wise the Jota will be borrowing some styling cues from the Estoque and Reventon. But as is obvious from the photos here of an all-in-black test vehicle, the car remains the archetypal, lane-straddling Lamborghini.

has some big air intakes on the side of the car, looks like they have grown a little bit. the murcielago was way too big and fat for a car. the diablo was good size car with the right engine and power

Love the Diablo, especially the final 6.0 SE Series. I hope Lambo will create something even lighter and rigid with the use of carbon fibre monocoque like the cheaper McLaren MP4-12C or the more expensive Carrera GT or the departed Mercedes SLR. I wonder what is Horatio Pagani is up to now?

I have to say I'm a little disasppointed. I was kind of hoping that Lamborghini would design a successor that diffrent from the rest of the line up. Like Ferrarri did with the 458. This just looks like a heavy modified Murcielago. I just have to make my mind up close to the time of release and when some of the detailing surfaces. But right now I'm just disappointed.

I agree, with the German ownership they tend to play it safer than Durex. I mean look at todays Audis

Well, if it is released to the public with all that duct tape, it would be horrid car, and will look like a diablo. But, if they plan to drop the camo, and are only using it to hide the design- I guess we don't really know what it looks like. Here's your sign...

Lambo is in a difficult place now, they always have design and create the bestlooking supercar which really stands out and makes people go WOW! and this time, I do expect the design would make me go wow like the Zonda did and still do

i don't like the huge difference between the front and the rear rims. and i don't refer tot the wide...the front rims look like 14 inch compared to the rear ones. the tyre is also thicker and it creates that ilussion

they're sticking a v12 in it .. only top of the line lambo's get v12s anyways, didn't like it at first glance, but it's growing on me, and by the time it's finished i'm sure it's going to be a very impressive machine .. lamborghini never fails to surprise ;)

I have to agree with dmanero, so far I'm hella disappointed.. The front is nothing new, and its profile looks like the Gallardo's front... Let's hope that it will freak us out when all the cemo comes off...:)

yeah , because we all know this is how the finished car will look like... i'm disappointed by the name, "Jota" sounds so underwhelming.

I love that large side scoop. The car looks great and I am sure the performance will be outstanding!

I can't wait for this car. @scratchy996 the name might sound underwhelming, but that only means the car is the better for it

yeah , but if i would pay for a Lambo , i expect a flamboyant Spanish name with it. i like pronouncing "Murcielago" with a Castilian accent. "Jota" is pronounced "Hota" , that's not fun... but at least the sound of the new V12 will cover the name of the car.

yeah looks like side scoops will replace the pop up air vents from the current Murcie. Also, look closely and there is quite a bit of taped on camo here. the rear end of the car is actually shorter than what appears (look inside vents). Same with the front: its longer than the actual car is due to taped on fake bumper from the wheel arches forward to make it appear as a 2006 Murcielago front end.

They should nickname this "godzilla", it looks really mean. just can't wait for lambo to shock everyone and force us to stare in awe at the forthcoming jota.

Hate to break it to you, but that nickname was already given to the Nissan GT-R and its '90s Skyline predecessors.

Hmm, direct injection, alu' spaceframe, parents Audi seem to be having a bigger say in this one. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing. I await this car with baited breath. It's a bit cheap to be criticising the looks of a car still clearly covered in camouflage and old body bits so as not to give anything away, isn't it? Although I'm a little concerned about the quote "Design-wise the Jota will be borrowing some styling cues from the Estoque and Reventon." Surely if you wanted to look at a Murcie-sized Lambo that looks like a Reventon, you'd look at a Reventon? That's all it is, after all.
