BMW 335is Coupe & Cabriolet Confirmed as Specs Leak

A leaked copy of an internal sales memo from BMW appears to indicate that the company has given the greenlight to BMW 335is Coupe and Cabriolet production for the North American market.  Drop top manufacturing would begin in March, just in time for the busy convertible-selling season.  Coupe assembly would begin two months later.

The document, a sales update for BMW Canada, was published and distributed earlier this month.  Two pages were posted on E90Post.com (see source link below).

In similar fashion to the recently revealed Z4 sDrive35is, the two vehicles will receive the BMW N54 straight-six twin-turbo engine producing either 322- or 344-horsepower, and 332 ft-lb of torque.  An "over-boost function" will allow the engine to churn out an additional 37 ft-lb when needed.  Look for a 0-60mph time of around 4.5 seconds on these cars.

The engine will be mated to a six-speed manual transmission, with a seven-speed double-clutch transmission also available.  An additional water cooler and "high output cooling fan" will also be installed.  BMW is planning on releasing the car with a sports exhaust, and black chrome pipes at the back.

On the outside, look for minor changes to the front and rear fascias, including LED lighting.  The company will use a body-colored rear diffuser, and 18-inch Ferric Grey alloy wheels.  The M Sport Package will also be available as an option.  Fog lights will appear on the cabrio, but will be eliminated from the coupe "for additional engine cooling."  Rumors suggest that the BMW kidney grill will be surrounded in glossy black, with the same color used on mirror caps.

Driving Dynamics Control, iDrive, and a new power-steering, should all be included.

Look for the BMW 335is Coupe and 335is Cabriolet to get a debut in Geneva this March.

This thing is going to be a rocket! They better be careful though with near the same performance for less money and better fuel economy it's making the e92 M3 even less appealing!!

That's because they are going to make the new M3 even more powerful I am sure.

They'll definitely be making the new M3 more powerful. But this car will be amazing. BMW is always conservative on their 0-60 figures.

I think the 335 sedan with M-sport package looks far more appealing and sportier than the M3 too.

More tractable than the M3 with all that torque too, maybe a CSL is in the works to keep the halo bright.

The GTS that was announced within the past couple of months is this gen's CSL I think. Well really it's a mix of CSL and GTR, but you know what I mean.

i swear to god the new F10 M5 better have more HP and torque then a jumbo jet, seriously! i'm just tired of BMW coming out with these 1er and 3er that are very closely matched to the M division. please don't dissapoint with the new M5 cause the e92 M3 was quite a dissapointment, i mean come on 414HP is a joke

It's not all about power. You have to be american to say such nonsens. It's about delivering the power available to the ground, the ratio between weight and power and a lot more other stuff. For example the new Audi S4 compared to the old S4 has less power...but still it's faster and more economic. I really don't like what car manufacters are doing: increasing too much the size of the cars (the new polo is as big as golf 4; the new 5 series is as big as 2002 7 series and so on...) and mostly i don't like overpowering cars...i mead dude...RS6 with almost 580 hp?!?! And for the next M5 555 hp would be enough (like the x5 m)...and i bet it will leave the RS6 in dust

According to the well informed german magazine AMS the E92 335i facelift will receive the new N55 mono-turbo engine with 306hp (PS). Is there a difference between the canadian 335iS and the german version? Does this mena, that there is a 306hp, a 322hp and a 344hp version? Doesn´t make sense to me.

No, BMW is switching to a single turbo single scroll unit because it offers lower emissions and similiar performance.

335i and 335iS is different cars. 335iS Has the more power. To make it more confusing there is a bmw Performance Power Kit for 335i and makes 326HP, torque 450 Nm (332 lb-ft)with 0-60 in 5.1sec

You can now have like an e46 m3 in a 335 body with this new engine!... if it gets 344hp that is.

just a shame it looks like every other 3 series, and we all see a hell of a lot of them (most have sport kits on 120i's). As much as some hate the 1 series coupe, as least the 135i stands out a little more.

0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds? Why would it be quicker than a M3?
January 16, 2010 5:47 pm
 BavarianMS BavarianMS
That is still not quicker then the m3. The Dinan 335I boasted 400hp and 450ft lbs of torque and it was only even with the m3 in the straight line. On the track slightly behind. The great part is that its cheaper and much cheaper to mod.
