VW NCC Concept Previews Near Production MKVI Jetta Coupe/Sedan
2011 VW Jetta sedan artist rendering / vwvortex.com

Volkswagen is giving NAIAS attendees a sneak peak at what the future has in store for the Jetta mkVI.  The Volkswagen NCC Concept, or New Compact Coupe, is a hybrid vehicle that combines a 1.4-liter turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor.

But the real news is the car's styling, which brings back square headlights while ditching the Jetta mkV's gaudy chrome features.  The two-door car reportedly has a roofline that is indistinguishable from the next-gen sedan.

What you see above is a four-door rendering from vwvortex.com, whose artist noticed that the manufacturer, "took the sedan, moved the b-pillar back, fabricated longer front doors and filled in the rear door profile with glass and sheetmetal."

As for the NCC Concept, the car's 148-horsepower engine, which cranks out up to 177 ft-lb of torque, works with the 20-kiloWatt electric motor to move the car 67.3 miles-per-gallon.  The two combine for 175 hp and 280 ft-lb, with the motor powered by a rear-mounted 1.1kWh li-ion battery.  CO2 emissions fall below 100 grams-per-kilometer.  Performance is respectable, with a 0-62 km/h time of 8.1 seconds en route to a 141 mph top speed.

To be built in Mexico the Jetta mkVI will have its media release in June with the market launch in the thrid quarter of this year.  It could get a petrol 2.0-liter naturally aspirated or turbocharged four-bangers, and a TDI.  North American base price could be as low as $17k.

This coupe should've been the new Scirocco or Corrado. It would've been much more in the spirit of the old car instead of the Golf varient they've done. Looks very good for what it is, if a little Audi-ish from the back.

Coupe ? what are you looking at, the pic has 4 doors. Shameless copying of Audi styling cues. Not original and doesn't look exciting. It's getting to the point of why buy an Audi when you can buy a VW that looks almost exactly alike for half the money.

I think VW have been working on this as an Audi A4 coupe but ditched it for a new model range, the A5 (which extended to the A5 Sportback). They couldn't let the effort go to waste so they dumped it on the Jetta. I really don't mind buying an Audi looking car for VW money but personally I think they should have passed it on to Seat and establish it more as the sporty brand. Next generation Seat Exeo/Exeo Coupe.

I love my old 1999 MkIV Jetta TDI's chunky, squared-off good looks. I Think the MkV looks rather bulbous, and I never really liked the front clip. This new MkVI really looks great from all angles. For sure, VW will tone down the front spoiler and air scoops, but the overall effect is very nice (and kinda chunky again) for a small sedan. Solid effort, VW!

It looks fantastic!!! I really like what Walter Di Silva is doing. This looks to be a great combination of Mk4 styling cues with the Mk5's superior engineering. As always, great job Volkswagen!

The Mk V always looked like a corolla, bring back the features from the Mk iv and make it a little less audi and it will sell like crazy

That rendering looks just stupid. That design wouldn't be too practical. Look at the front seat's and b pillar's placement. This new golf series coupe's wheel base looks relatively short alongside with that roofline. Front end is looks also quite short. It should have bigger wheels under those wheel arches. Not just bigger rims wihout any gum, but bigger radius for the wheels. Ground clearance would also increase that way. In my opinion those wheels & wheel arches looks just like some bad dropped tuners machine. And I was referring to that image: http://img.worldcarfans.com/2010/1/medium/2479866.jpg
