2011 Chevrolet Cruze U.S. Production Version Live in Detroit
2011 Chevrolet Cruze U.S. spec live in Detroit, NAIAS 12.01.2010

GM brought the North American production edition of the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze to the NAIAS.  Already being sold in Asia and Europe, the Cruze came back to the States following its Los Angeles launch last year.

The Cruze LS will feature a 1.8-liter Ecotec four-cylinder engine generating 136 horsepower and up to 123 ft-lb of torque.  Cruze LT and LTZ buyers will instead get a turbocharged 1.4-liter Ecotec generating 138 horsepower and as much as 148 ft-lb of torque.  The engines may be mated to either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.  Fuel economy is expected to be around 40mpg.

Standard equipment includes stability control, six-speaker stereo, 16-inch wheels, and soft-touch interior components.  Options include Bluetooth, heated seats, leather, and satellite radio.

Consumers looking to purchase the 2011 Chevy Cruze can expect to spend at least $16,000.  The car will come on the NA market beginning in the second half of the year.

The Cruze is a very honest car. It appears to be well put together and the design has some personality. The pricing and equipment is also very competitive. Point for GM.

We already have this car as a Holden in Australia, it has done little to gain market share. Still easily out done by a Toyota, Honda, Hyundai & Mazda for fit, finish, drive and ride quality.

Attention Australians: Did anyone see the thing on Captiva on Today Tonight on the 8th of Jan (if not Google it entitled "Captiva Woes")..... my point is, doesn't our Cruze come from the same factory? Basically it is Korean crap which is why it hasn't done much for market share. Corolla, Mazda3 and Lancer are far superior cars. Even the i30 is better.

I doubt the car is coming from the same factories that will produce it in the US. You called it crap but I haven't read any recent stories about GM cars killing their owners & families through unintended, runaway acceleration. Can you say Oh, what a feeling....Toyota

At the moment, the Cruze is coming from Korea, this is true. But as of the 2011 model year, the Cruze will be produced here in Australia beside the Commodore. The real indication of the car's success in Australia will be when the Australian built model starts production.

I like this car's chances. What any Aussie may want to consider is whether or not the finish and materials will be the same in the US. I used to live in AU and recall Fords in the US having higher spec materials than the ones in AU. Times may have changed, or not, but this is a solid effort a global platform. The biggest threat will be the newly polished Ford Focus.

I guess this is replacing the cobalt (here in north america) which is a good thing - style wise.

You may wish to question the quality, but I have sold Chrysler products in Oz made in the USA like Caliber, Patriot & Sebring and I can tell you that their fit and finish was very poor buy our markets standards. The same will go for this car wheather built in Korea or USA, it not the location but the manufacture that sets the quality bench market. If Honda & Toyota can build quality in the US why can't Chrysler & GM? Sorry but these guys are going down, it's too little to late.

Here you are talking about Chrysler products, as if they somehow have anything to do with Chevrolet. They have been making excelent cars for years here in the U.S. I have owned many Chevrolet vehicles over the years and love every one of them. Stop using limited past experiance as a basis for your biased opinions. Give this little car a chance and go throw another shrimp on the barbie.

THEBENCHMARK... Being a multiple Chevrolet owner don't you think you would have more of a bias than me? Basis for my comment is not personal basis, if these companies made quality cars and were run well they would not need to be bailed out by the US government? We already have add 1 manufacture close down in Oz it was very ugly, this is unfortunately plenty of this coming for US manufactures.
