2011 Porsche Cayenne spied nearly undisguised - 04.12.2009

The 2011 Porsche Cayenne will be introduced at the Geneva Motor Show as an all-wheel drive hybrid, according to Autocar.  Porsche's relationship with new parent Volkswagen will surely be tested with the SUV, which will feature a supercharged 333-horsepower 3.0-liter V6 petrol engine sourced from VW-owned Audi mated to a 47-horsepower electric motor.

Citing Porsche sources, the magazine claims the Cayenne Hybrid will travel 34.5 miles-per-gallon, becoming the most efficient Porsche vehicle currently produced.  CO2 emissions will be below 200 grams-per-kilometer.

The Cayenne Hybrid will be offered in addition to four available engine choices, including a 3.6-liter V6 generating 300 hp, a 4.8-liter V8 producing 400 hp, and a 500-horsepower turbocharged 4.8-liter model used on the Cayenne Turbo.  Some markets will also get access to a 240-horsepower 3.0-liter V6 sourced from Volkswagen.

New Cayenne purchasers will also get access to a new eight-speed automatic transmission.  Whether purchasing a hybrid model or conventional version, each vehicle will be fitted with stop/start and brake energy recovery systems.  Conventionally-powered versions will see efficiency grow by 23%, with several models getting at least 28mpg.  This is also due to engineers cutting 10% of the weight on the model.

The magazine says the car could also be more comfortable inside.  Adjustable back rests in the new sliding rear bench will feel nicer than the flat bench previously used.  The longer wheelbase helped employees develop the SUV with more leg room in the back and more cargo space.

Production of the next-gen Cayenne will take place at the Volkswagen plant in Bratislava, Slovakia.  The Slovakia location is also responsible for the VW Touareg and the Audi Q7.  Final assembly will be completed in Porsche's Leipzig, Germany, facility.

Autocar is reporting that UK sales will begin in May, following the debut of the 2011 Porsche Cayenne in March.

It looks much smaller than the current model! and much uglier, i think they should leave this segment for X5, Q7, ML and RR sport

I agree with GRAVE it does look smaller than the current one. I think it looks more GLK, X3, Q5, XC60 sized.

that's because it is smaller and it's a SAV now. they dropped some of the off road capabilities for more agility on the road.

they wasted what I loved about the current model. the current Turbo can be a private motorway jet, a good performer in the curves and an absolute surprise off road. it showed Porsche can make the best SUV in the world too. this is a piece of SHIT pointless as an X6. why bother? it's SO close to a Tiguan, which is SO close to a GOLF! Why not make a sporty compact car then based on the Scirocco?

One of the appeal of a Cayenne to me is that it can do offroad and sporty driving, although it's ugly, I would buy one if I got the money. but now, taken the offroad stuff out of it lowers the appeal for me.

no one used the Cayenne for offroading, with cars like the X5 and X6 selling well without any real offroad abilities there was no point to introduce the expensive and heavy offroad equipment in the standard Cayenne anymore. maybe they will offer the possibility to buy an optional offroad package, but i don't know if that will make sense economically.

It does makes sense that Porsche taken out it offroad stuff, hopefully they have the offroad stuff retain as an option, just because if I got a Cayenne, it will be use for offroad

One has to appreciate the fact that Porsche has twice gone against every rule that defines an SUV: 1. Build a PORSCHE SUV. lol 2. Build a new generation of SUV that is actually SMALLER than it's predecessor.

guys? look at the 2011 Porsche Cayenne article here on WCF from June 2. The photos of that car look much more different, the whole shape of the car, mainly the side and the bach lights. this one does look smaller and i'm starting to have a feeling that Porsche is gonna surprise us with 2 new models. This new smaller SAV and the classic Cayenne but again facelifted. Its going to be interesting in a couple of months
