how is "5.5 possible" when the 300hp version gets 0-60 times in 4.7 no problem??

Thinking of the same, too...strange. Hmm, the price puts it at the same ballpark as a M3, which might hurt its sale. Wow, nice torquey engine, that's what I like to see.

Good catch guys, we should have spotted that in the Autocar story. Nonetheless the official 0-100km/h time is 5.3 for the 135i. So we could speculate at least 0.2 seconds less to 5.1 seconds and possible 5.0 or 4.9 if there turns out to be any significant weight loss.

HAHA the stock version does get 0-60 in under 5 seconds.
This article is very misleading. All they are trying to say is that they are trying to release a lightweight and more powerful version of a 1 series with an M badge. It could even be using a 4 cylinder turbocharged engine. The idea is to keep it light this time around. They are debating of what to call it because calling it the M1 would be blasphemous to the legendary car from the 70s.

I would like to see M division keep at least one or two of their cars NA. Hopefully they don't eventually forget how to produce an engine altogether.

This must be getting close to the end of its model cycle. Flog the 135 for all it's worth and save this for the next generation. Call it 1M.

There is something wrong here
" The two-door coupe will use BMW's famed 3.0-litre straight six petrol engine, but instead of employing one turbo like the 5 Series GT it will revert to a new improved twin-turbo system"
The Current 135i uses the TWIN TURBO'd 3lte straight 6. How is this engine setup new.
And to be honest if the M version is ONLY going to have 50bhp over the 135i then Id rather stick with the 135i

Dair,
BMW discovered that by employing a single turbo, they can have the same performance but lower emissions. So they're replacing the old twin turbo straigh six by a single turbo one. This was first accomplished on the 5 GT and this will be next (probably).

@otakki The $61K US price is a direct conversion of the estimated ?38K UK price, it always comes out higher.
For comparison an M3 starts at around ?50K+ while a 135i starts at around ?30K+.

Financially accessible? Maybe if I was working in the world of finance! And / or lived in a country where cars are reasonably priced (think EU vs the US). Darn shame, would murder for a 135M, just my kind of car, thanks. Pretty much perfect!
