I can't say I'm surprised to see this car. This was always the plan for the Insignia. I wonder how the VXR walrus teeth will go down stateside.

looks like GM wants this car to be what was considered to be the first Ford Mondeo - a global car... and it's not a bad idea

YES! This is exactly what GM -and all of detroit for that matter- has to do, and should have started doing a LONG time ago.
I find the statement "We designed the Regal GS"

I find the statement "We designed the Regal GS..." to be arrogant and false, in that virtually this entire car was designed by Opel.
But this is a glorious day for GM fans, but regardless if you are or not, this is definitely a BIG step for the American vehicle market, and all of its enthusiasts!

The Opel Insignia was designed by Opel which is owned by GM. So the statement is correct. I don't see the same sort of comments about sharing platforms in relation to Toyota, VW and others. Audis, Skoda, Seat, VW all share corporate platforms...just like Toyota and some Lexus models. The platform belongs to GM. Opel belongs to GM and has for what the last 90 years. Anything Opel makes belongs to the corporate parent which is GM. Come on guys...you bashed GM when they did it wrong with rebranding cars...now they are using good corporate platforms just like Toyota or VW. Do you really think that Opel developed this platform only for Opel when they are a subsidiary of a corporate parent? IF so you might want to start complaining as VW is getting ready to rebadge the Porsche Panamera under one of its other brands, VW rebadged a Lamborghini Gallardo to become an Audi R8. There is no difference except you people hate GM.

No kidding, GM owns Opel? ...lol
I was referring to this statement: "According to Buick's product marketing manager, Craig Bierley".
I find it controversial that a Buick representative is taking credit for a car almost entirely designed by Opel.
Of course companies will re-badge, that's simple economics; economies of scale, and just good business.
And buddy, please don't put words in my mouth. Read the rest of my original post, you will find that I praise this car and the beginning of a revolution in the industry that it represents. I love GM, and always will.

thats one of the reasons why gm wants to keep opel..

the new buick/Vauxhall/opel regal is really nice and the europe engine is a v6 325hp :)) and the us engine is a 4 cyl.
THE WORLD UPSIDE DOWN!!!

Hello hhfol,
According to the text the US turbo-charged 4-cylinder produces 255hp compared to the European 217hp. The V6 you refer to relates the European high performance OPC version, which the US market may still get.
Otherwise the other V6 engine in Europe is the 260 hp V6 turbo which is not particularly quick. The 217hp turbo-4 is much better, of which the US markets gets the 255hp version of it!
One thing to point out. Turbos work better at higher altitudes where the air is thin, better than a 6-cylinder of similar output. At those altitudes you may also find snow, which is where AWD is useful. Like at ski resorts, for example.

Really? I thought that the V-6 was totally out of the picture for the American market, as I've read elsewhere that Buick wants to keep the entire Regal line-up as I-4s.
Would be awesome if they did though! Definite S4 competitor!

Nice looking car and Euro COTY. Deserves to do very well in the US.
All wheel drive too! - think I may have found my next car.

..."Connected to a six-speed manual transmission and an adaptive all-wheel-drive system (with an electronic limited-slip rear differential)..." WHAT?!?! I can hardly believe it. If GM can find dealers" who will actually put this car in their showrooms, these models will sell. I believe some of the "old-man" sitgma for Buick stems from the sales force's resistance to younger-themed product and the marketing team's misguided efforts to aim product at the 25-40 market.

And someone would rather buy this one instead of an Audi because?.....
January 7, 2010 11:33 pm
because its just as good a car and costs a fraction of what an Audi does. Audis being nothing more than a badge, i think i would take the Opel. Also, the top spec insignia interior with wood trim is nicer than any Audi.
January 8, 2010 8:05 pm
Audis all look the same and are somehow terribly boring - with the possible exception of some of the wagons.

"We designed the Regal GS to explore the appeal of a high-performance variant of the Regal." - HAHAHA, you idiot, you didn't design anything! The car already exists! You switched the engine and the badge, that isn't design!
