Tata Indica Vista Sport Concept Revealed in New Delhi

Tata Indica Vista Sport Concept Revealed in New Delhi
Tata Indica Vista Concept Sport S live at 2010 New Delhi Auto Expo - 1200 - 05.01.2010 / Copyright: indianautosblog.com

The Tata Indica Vista Sport, a new concept from the Indian automaker, is a design study meant to show Tata's ability to produce a more aggressive-looking vehicle.  Based on the Indica Vista, launched at the 9th Auto Expo, the new concept was introduced at India's 10th Auto Expo in New Delhi.

The vehicle was painted in Alphanso Orange, to make the car more appealing to a younger market segment.  At the front, "petal-shaped" headlights, hexagonal grille, side inlets, and large air intake combine to make the car look somewhat egregious and muddled.

At the hatchback's rear, the car starts to look a bit more interesting.  The new rear bumper makes room for dual flat exhaust pipes, a diffuser, and spoiler, without spoiling the original designs clean lines.  Still, the flared wheel arches and exaggerated sidesills look out of place.  Interior upgrades include black leather seats in an all-black cabin.

No performance specs were released on the concept.

The Tata Motors Group has unfolded the full scale of its product portfolio and the breadth of its technology capability with a display of 37 vehicles, from the Tata, Jaguar and Land Rover brands, at the Auto Expo 2010, which opened here today. Among them are three new Tata vehicles - the Tata Aria, the Tata Venture, the Tata Magic Iris - and the all new Jaguar XJ, which were unveiled by the Chairman of Tata Sons and Tata Motors, Mr. Ratan N. Tata.

In passenger vehicles, the Group's displays range from Jaguar luxury saloons and Land Rover SUVs to Tata Indigo Manza sedans, Tata Indica Vista hatchbacks, the Tata Safari, the Sumo Grande MK II, the Xenon XT, and two specially conceived Tata Nano cars. The Nano has been declared as the 2010 Indian Car of the Year (ICOTY). The Tata commercial vehicles range displays include a brand new Starbus platform, the Prima range of world standard trucks, CNG-fuelled truck pick-up vehicles, and a Winger-based special application.

Tata Indica Vista Sport: The Tata Indica Vista Sport, a concept, reiterates the versatility of the Vista platform. The flared wheel arch trims and accentuated fog lamp slots exude power. The carefully contoured bonnet flares and the black treatment on the Vista's distinctive petal-shaped headlamps assert its feline poise, made complete with a trendy aerofoil rear roof spoiler. The youthful Alphanso Orange body colour, contrasted with a dark shaded roof, highlights the car's sportiness, matched with ebony black interiors and black leather seats. Tata Nano for her, and for him: Demonstrating the Tata Nano's adaptability to customer desired look and personality, two specially conceived LX cars are on display. The Cocktail Red Nano, with attractive floral patterns on the door and the bonnet, is dressed for women. The theme has been replicated in the interiors too - on the seats, door pads and the centre console. It is also fitted with a stop-start feature. The second specially conceived Nano, in Wild Lime colour, will appeal to male sensibilities with interiors of leather seats and leather door pads. Being derivatives of the Nano LX, both are air-conditioned and equipped with electronic trip meter, music system, mobile charger point, central locking, tinted glasses, front power windows and fog lamps.

Your right, good catch, but the Mazda grill is pretty generic anyway. I think Acura used the same basic shape in the early 2000's (namely the Acura RSX in the US).

Looks like a Seat crossed with an Opel OPC, and the rear is just a Tata Nano with a faux diffuser and fake plastic tailpipes. It's still nice-looking though, if a little tall. But "Indica Vista" is such a wet, non-sporty sounding name.

Mock Tata if you must, but they are holding the reins of LAND ROVER's & JAGUAR's future in their hands! Lexus got caned by global auto journalists when they made their first S-class clone and same thing with KIA and Hyundai, but see their results now! Great move by TATA by even thinking 'performance' at such an embryonic stage in their global strategy.

Good God.. Drum brakes at the back! I did a little Googling and found out that the "Safire engine" is a Fiat-sourced 1,4 liter engine with 95 PS.

Looks like a Crossover between the Mazda 2, Vauxhall Corsa and That CityRover pos. Looks okay with the bodykit, but I bet the production model will suck.

I agree with you, even though the grill is generic Mazda, who cares, the rest of the car is pretty original (unlike some other cars) and unfussy. For what this car costs and for its purpose, TATA has done a good job.
