BMW M Power Free iPhone App Released
BMW has created a new, free application for the Apple iPhone. Called M Power Meter, the app provides users with sprint times, distance, and g-forces experienced.
Although the software gives you the 0-50 km/h time by default, the app can be set to provide times for sprints up to 200 km/h. M Power Meter is also able to time how long it takes your car to cover specific distances, up to 2,000 meters. Maximum forward and lateral g-force is also determined by the app.
The software uses the accelerometer built into the iPhone, and works when the phone is standing upright, or pointed towards the direction of travel. BMW's M Power Meter may be downloaded for free from the App Store on Apple's website.

This has nothing to do with the X5 and X6 M you realistically could use this in any car. And the only reason we're hearing allot about the X5M and X6M is because they are the newest M cars and like any new car your going to hear a bit more about them for a while.

The newest M car is the M3 GTS, but you don't hear BMW bragging about it too much! Let's be realistic, these two M badged SUVs are the one bringing the money for BMW at the moment, so they'll promote them as aggressive as possible!

X5 and x6 IS the New demographic. Remember when BMW abandoned endurance racing to support yahct racing? (Hmm..famous engine builder to get into wind power???). The BMW driver has vastly changed over the last 25 years.

BMW's M division is still the most die hard in the business. BMW M has not change its target market. In fact, they are expanding it. Still, it doesn't really matter, because it is such a small percentage of BMW's total sales.

I dont think this thing works properly on the iphone, the GPS refreshes too slowly it's position. The accelerometer basically just starts a timer, the rest is just how long it takes for you to hit 100, at which point the gps tells the timer to stop. The G counter is useless, it's not accurate enough to give you any real info.

I've tested Pocked Dyno and Dynolicious with a G-tech Pro and found that by default they are 0.2 sec off compared to it when measuring 0-100 km/h times. Of course, you can adjust the accelerometer sensitivity for the start and get under 0.1 sec difference when compared to the G-tech. It might not be very precise in an absolute way (same for G-tech), but it's pretty good as a cheap way to find out if you get any improvement when you add mods to the car.
