Aston Martin Cygnet Targeting Urban Youth in Latest Viral Video?

The marketing begins

Aston Martin has released a new viral video, which features the controversial Cygnet concept.

The clip starts out by showing two kids running the 'Aston Martin Assault Course' where they do back flips and run into an Aston Martin design studio. Upon seeing the Cygnet, they don't cry, vomit or curse emission laws - they run towards it (talk about a creative license).

Anyways, the video has us scratching our heads. Is Aston Martin targeting young consumers? As you may recall, the company's Works Service magazine stated the Cygnet would only be available to people who already own an Aston Martin (when/if it goes into production). This would make the Cygnet rather hard for the average 20-something to get their hands on, especially considering the rumored £20,000 to £30,000 ($32,500 to $48,700 USD) price tag.

Regardless, the Cygnet is based on the Toyota iQ and features a 1.33-liter petrol engine that produces 97 hp and 91 ft-lb of torque. This anemic powertrain will allow the concept to have a combined fuel consumption rating of 55 mpg and a CO2 emissions rating of 120 g/km.

Can parkour (aka free running) make the Cygnet cool? We doubt it, but feel free to let us know.

I will never look at Astons the same way again. I wish if they could build something like the old Virage Vantage V600 Le Mans again than this supermarket cart. A couple of things that should never have happened: - Mercedes? creating the A and the B class - Porsche Cayenne - Aston Martin cloning the IQ - Ferrari California which is actually a Maser Gransport - VW New Beetle - BMW 5 Granturismo - MINI's upcoming softroader - Jaguar X-Type - Lexus LFA it is just wrong, you know...

Not an original idea for an advert. Scion has done it plenty of times.

@ alessandro Toyota have a third brand in the USA called ?Scion?. It targets the youth market, as their Lexus (brand 2) targets the premium end. IMO, Scion is rubbish.

...I think Aston Martin is trying in a very low key way to appeal to the current Aston owners to buy this over-priced Toyota and give it to their kids as a first car or college car. This minicar would still possess cachet on campus or as a toy for rich kids considering its low production volume. Personally, I think it's a joke but Aston has to comply with the new fuel efficiency laws.

And this car is an excellent way to meet the new laws. Why people cannot see this is beyond me. Maybe, the same people who think that this is a bad idea for Aston as the same people who think that 2010 starts a new decade.

Basically it boils down to this- would you rather Aston Martin diluted the Vantage, DB9 and DBS with hybrid or diesel power or kept them pure and offered this instead?

funny how only people who can't afford expensive cars talk about brand dilution. people who actually buy Astons don't care about such things. even if Aston makes a 3 cylinder Vantage diesel, they would still buy the V12.

I own an Aston Martin and I think its a very stupid idea...I will probably only ever see this car in the showroom so it doesnt really matter it wont wash the brand out.. It looks better than a Smart Car at least... =-\

He already drove a Citro?n 2CV, a Mini Moke and a Renault 11. With this he could at least stay with one brand ;-)

I also think this is quite a mistake. Is there such a big market of spoiled children, because I can't think of anyone else but some crazy rich parents to buy a "mini" Aston Martin. This is really wrong.
