A week ago we told you about a Photoshop contest held by AutoWeek.nl, with submitters sending in their renditions of the next Saab 9-5 SportCombi wagon.  Although one of the drawings was mistakenly identified by a Swedish news outlet as an internal sketch from the automaker, another site is saying the rendering is very close to the real thing.

Still, nobody knows for sure what the fate of Saab is at this point despite recent comments from a GM spokesman Chris Preuss, "At this point, GM has no plans for any further announcements regarding Saab. If anything changes or if any new deal or actions arise, we would certainly communicate them, but right now there's nothing to communicate."

Last week Dutch sports car builder Spyker made a new offer addressing several key issues that scuttled their previous offer for the Swedish brand. However, hopes are fading following the recent comments.

Should Saab remain open, Swedish web site Aftonbladet say this rendering is very close to what the next-generation Saab 9-5 SportCombi will become.  Accurate or not?  Let us know what you think below.

Hmm if it's a Swedish brand why not the government make an offer to buy it? or are they happy to see their brand falling like that?

Because they are one of the only countries smart enough to see that with the massive overproduction in the automotive industry, the only long term solution is to allow uncompetitive brands to fail. Why should the Swedish government pump billions into a consistently unprofitable brand. For the number of jobs it would safe, its not a good return on investment. It'd cost something like a million dollars per job, thats around 20 years of wages per person.

At this we point have to think that SAAB is GM and not Swedish. Let the Americans sort out the mess they made with SAAB. I am sad but at the same time I am letting SAAB go unless they are properly taken care of like VAG or BMW. The rendering certainly looks good. But everyone knows that they want a 5-Series Touring instead. I will never buy cars from GM.

Let's get this straight; Geely (of China) just nabbed Volvo. Now, it's BAIC (of China again) in line to nab, you've guessed it, SAAB! Rover & MG were over when they got nabbed by Nanjing of China! Hope BAIC don't kill off this car especially the model names of future model plans!
