Rumor: Mercedes CLS Shootingbrake Coming in 2011
Mercedes ConceptFASCINATION

Daimler is rumored to be bringing a Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake to the Paris Motor Show in October.  News of the car comes as little surprise considering the positive reception received by the Porsche Panamera, reports Dutch outlet Auto Internationaal.

The new CLS model could get a market release by the end of 2011 as a four door, an advance on the two-door Mercedes ConceptFASCINATION shown in 2008 at the Paris show.  Look for the doors to remain frameless, like the 5er GT.  It would have the advantage of lower weight and reduced drag, making it a good option for highway drivers and chronic shoppers, writes the Netherlands-based blog.

If released, the car would compete with other multi-segment vehicles, like the Audi A7 Sportback, BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo, and the previously mentioned Panamera.

Every shooting brake that has ever been made has always been ugly. If the photo header is any indication, this might be a little different. But how different will it be from the E wagon then? The smart money would go for the E550 touring and save the 20+ grand on options instead of this.

Mercedes just continues to dilute its brand image. What is the purpose of this, and who is its intended customer? The CLS is a stylish alternative to the E-Class and this simply removes the 'stylish' part of the alternative. There is a theory in marketing that too many choices overwhelm the prospective customer and they end up not buying at all.

highphotos#3 - looks like MB is trying that (failure) R class look with the CLS to compete with the 5er GT.

Have to agree with much of whats being said.I would not buy this car, for the same reason I wouldnt buy a CLS tall people can not get and and out of the back seats unless they drop ass first into car tip over and pull their legs up and in. to much effort for and uncomfortabile ride and big price.

If M-B builds this car, I would be shocked if they released it in the USA. The CLS has been a huge hit here, but a wagon version of it would flop I think.

A wagon is all about the extra space, this isn't so leave it with the huge e class estate.

For God's sake!!! Remember, BMW 5 GT does NOT compete with CLS, Panamera,Rapide, A7(lower seating point). It is a car like Mercedes R-class, Chrysler Pacifica, Buick Enclave, Lexus RX, Renault Vel Satis (higher seatig point). Possible BMW 4-door coupe could be 5-series coupe resembling concept CS.
