Mercedes SLS AMG Desert Gold Video Released

There are very few places in the world where a gold-colored car commands praise, and one of those places is the United Arab Emirates.  That is why Daimler chose to introduce the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Desert Gold at a private event in Abu Dhabi earlier this month.

The car later went on public display at the Dubai Motor Show.  Along with the car's release, was the debut of a nearly two-minute long video featuring the Desert Gold, and narrated by what sounds like a phone sex operator.

Thankfully, the car is in more muted matte tones, as opposed to the C63 AMG in chrome sent to Dubai last year.  On the Desert Gold, the automaker replaced the chrome grille normally found on the SLS AMG with a blacked-out unit.  Gold-ringed, blackened light alloy wheels, 9.5x19 front and 11.0x20 back, replace the SLS AMG's silver-colored five-spoke wheels.  Inside, the company used black and carbon-fiber trim for the interior.

Mercedes-Benz chief Dr. Dieter Zetsche and Mercedes GP Driver Nico Rosberg pulled the curtain off the car at its premiere.  The United Arab Emirates is AMG's fourth largest market, following the U.S., Germany, and Japan.  With enough demand, Mercedes-Benz will make the somewhat garish AMG Desert Gold paint available as an option.

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG was introduced earlier this year in Frankfurt.  It uses a 6.3-liter (6208cc) V8 engine that generates 571 horsepower.
