That's an impressive increase in power and efficiency but KERS for the road is just pointless

good point... even on the Autobahn you don't need a power boost as long as your car already has 500+ HP... this is good only for those who like "street racing"... but all in all it's an interesting development

It's not about needing it, it's about getting where you want to be more efficiently and faster. You can either floor the gas when you want to do a tricky highway pass and burn loads of fuel, or you can hit the KERS and burn a fraction.

Yeah, but kers (like hybrids) require recharging from braking, something that really shouldn't happen much on motorways. Then you have to think, when do I use it etc to conserve it. Just complicates things when you don't need to. Also don't forget the extra weight of kers -- probably nullifies most of the performance gains.

Sounds great my e60 m5 gets an average of 7.4mpgs with 507 always on so this is great news can't wait to hit the roads in this monster, gonna miss the wounderful sound of the v10 n the 8250 redline :(

I thought we were past this silly video game power boost nonsense.

KERS on street car? We'll have to see. Regardless, SO excited for this car!

Err... Carbon-FIBER brakes...? Surely that must read carbon CERAMIC brakes, no?

yeah, it has to be carbon ceramic, i cant imagine carbon fiber holding up for long under harsh braking!

This rendering doesn't look like BMW M car, looks like a normal 5 with few extras and a bigger wheels, hope the real M doesn't look like this

Despite being cool, i also hope that the M5 doesn?t look like this rendering.

No doubt will be an amazing car but the V8 will be wheezing more than howling like the V10. I still can't quite get over how much like the 3 this looks. The E60 was so distinctive.

I want the E39 style subtleness, discreteness design. This artist rendering is a bit showy for my liking

The 5-Series is such a good car. Whenever I drive one, I'm struck by how 'right' they feel. The right size, the right balance between handling and refinement, the ergonomics, the steering and brakes. This new shape improves the look of the car, returning to a classier, understated look, like the E39.
