Aston Martin is accelerating development on the upcoming One-77 supercar. During top secret high-speed testing in the south of France the car comfortably achieved a top speed of 220.007mph (354.86 km/h) under dry but windy conditions. More tests will be conducted in the new year, including dynamic testing.

The One-77 is powered by a 7.3-litre V12 engine and will be Aston's most powerful and of course expensive road car ever. It is a two-door, two-seat coupe with a carbon fibre monocoque body structure.

A limited production run of only 77 will be produced and sales are scheduled to start in the middle of 2010.

Press Release (Click to expand)

Aston Martin’s One-77 supercar has moved closer to setting a new all-time record for the British marque in initial high speed testing after surpassing all predictions and comfortably breaking the 200mph mark.

The One-77 is currently undergoing a stringent development process ahead of planned launch in 2010 with high speed testing taking place at a top secret proving ground in southern Europe. In a series of test runs completed last week the One-77 exceeded original expectations and recorded a 220.007mph (354.86kmh) top speed in dry but windy conditions under the guidance of the Aston Martin engineering team. Dynamic testing is now scheduled to continue into the New Year.

Powered by a new Aston Martin 7.3 litre V12 engine, the One-77 is engineered to deliver breathtaking levels of power and performance. The dramatically styled two-door, two-seat sports coupe is based on an innovative new carbon fibre monocoque body structure and adopts new active aerodynamic technology.

The One-77 is the ultimate expression of what Aston Martin stands for and will combine modern technology and design with craftsmanship and ultimate exclusivity to create the world’s most desirable automotive art form.

As name suggests, production is limited up to a maximum of 77 individually numbered examples, with deliveries expected to commence in mid-2010.

thats not too bad going from the 7.3 litre V12, i reckon it could go a bit faster depending on the wind and its direction wonder how long it will take before one it written off like the enzo, lamborghini murcielago and any other fast super cars

Looks quite alright actually than the computer rendering. It is certainly aggressive but not as classy DB4 Zagato or as sexy as the DB7 or muscular as the Vanquish. Aston should have a new design language to make their cars don't look like DB7 copycats.

Nice, I wasn't expecting so much from it. I thought 208 - 212 max. Not because it doesn't have power, it does... but because it's still a front-engined GT and its body has been designed for sexiness first and aerodynamics second. Look at those rear haunches- I'd reckon wind has a hard time finding its way around them, but by god are they beautiful. As a way to spend this kind of money, I'd have this over a Veyron in a heartbeat. So what if it can't do 254mph, I don't think anyone in their lifetime will ever do that more than once anyway - money no option. This is pure art and it goes considerably fast too. I love it.

If only they'd put more of this evolutionary styling on the Rapide instead of a stretched 5-year-old design. A wasted opportunity IMO. The One-77 displays a great progression of the Aston Martin aesthetic.

Hear! x2. I don't mean to sound like a House Of Commons loon, but you get the picture. The Estoque saloon from Lamborghini shows what opportunity Aston missed on the Rapide! The Estoque looks like a four-door Reventon, snorting with rage!
