Saab Not Dead Yet - Spyker Makes New Offer

Saab Not Dead Yet - Spyker Makes New Offer
2010 Saab 9-5 World Debut at 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show

Several parties still interested in the brand

Mark Twain once said "The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated," little did he know he could have been talking about Saab.

Just two days after GM announced Saab would be closed, Spyker has submitted a new 11-point bid which seeks to address several key issues that scuttled their previous offer for the company. While details are limited, it appears the new offer will eliminate Spyker's need to be approved for a European Investment Bank loan before the end of the year.

According to Spyker's CEO, Victor Muller, "We have made every effort to resolve the issues that were preventing the conclusion of this matter, and we have asked GM and all other involved parties to seriously consider this offer." He added, "We are very confident that our renewed offer will remove the impasse that was standing in the way of an agreement on Friday, and this would still allow us to conclude the deal prior to the expiry of the deadline originally set by GM of December 31."

GM responded by issuing a statement which said "Following Friday's announcement that GM will begin the orderly wind down of Saab, GM has received inquiries from several parties. We will evaluate each inquiry. We will not comment further until these evaluations have been completed."

While it's interesting to note GM mentioned "several parties", Spyker's offer is valid until 5 p.m. EST on Monday, December 21st.

i knew it would be ridiculous to let this brand die. its got tonnes of history and a design language from the past that needs to be brought back with an upto date and confident stance. with the right buyer saab could be a knockout force. lets see what happens...

 GRAVE GRAVE
This is a good news, actually the whole GM should be sold to a company which can hold and handle the brands better, those trouble makers don't deserve to hold those brands.

couldn't agree more. remember when i was young, my dad's dream garage is none other than mercedes and saab. its reliability and safety is well-known then. the company is more of a sentimental value to me. couldn't bear to see it collapse just like that.

But if GM sold the old 9-5 and 9-3 laws to the chinese BAIC company, then Spyker will buy only the new Saab 9-5 and the future 9-4X ?

GM just sold me the rights to those nifty "grater" air vents in EVERY Saab. They also said I could have the console mounted ignition switch if I promise not to say anything negative about the new Denali...

Saab have only ever produced two cars as an independent concern (three if you count the Sonnet). The 9000 was part of the Type 4 project of the 80s with Fiat and (then independant Alfa) and everything else has been GM. I would put the enf of Saab on par with the folding of Oldsmobile. Interesting pre-GM history but nothing of great interest since.
