A candid snapshot of the Audi A1, with pop-chart topper Justin Timberlake in the foreground, recently leaked out from a video and photo shoot.  As the recently announced Audi A1 ambassador, Timberlake will be featured in a series of advertisements for the new supermini.

Our thanks to WorldCarFans reader "G" for raising the flag on this story.

Following official teaser renderings released a few days ago, the car appears to have headlights that bulge a bit as they extend outwards.  The grille has a slight hexagonal shape, instead of a trapezoidal one.  Air intakes appear to be larger, with foglights ringed in either chrome or white.  It appears as though the A-pillar and roofline are still in a second color tone, as expected.

Do not read too much into the American pop star's involvement in the A1 campaign; this is not a sign that the car is coming to US soil.  Despite the Mini Cooper's level of profitability in North America, Audi executives have long maintained that the volume of sales are not enough to justify bringing in another competitor.  Audi boldly reiterated this line of thinking recently with a statement saying, "no sales are planned for the U.S."

Audi plans to introduce the urban commuter on the internet next February, with a full-reveal coming in March at the Geneva Motor Show.

oh and the thing about it being a competitor to the mini? i dont think so.compared to this, that car oozes character. bmw wont be losing any sleep with the arrival of this shrunken A3.....or should that be A4?.....err maybe A6? ah what the hell, it looks like it could be anything from their lineup.

Everybody knows BMW's Mini cars are one of the most if not the most distinctive cars on our roads. No body can doubt that as Mini's do have tons of character. When compared to the look alike Audi's from VW, I doubt that Audi has much character, and in my opinion, from what they have done in th past, considering the fact that the A3 is actually a Golf, this A1 may well just be a VW Polo. How can a VW Polo beat a BMW Mini? Furthermore, those of you wondering why BMW 1 Series is selling so much better than the A3: here's the answer: the 1 Series is based on the 3 Series (a premium vehicle) with 40% parts shared. The Audi A3 however is based on the VW Golf with 67% parts shared with this sub-premium vehicle. You do the reasoning.

"Audi executives have long maintained that the volume of sales are not enough to justify bringing in another competitor" what the?!!!! The biggest car market in the world and audi comes out with a reason for NOT being there!!!! Pathetic! Its clear that they know it doesn’t have a hope in hell against the mini.

You seem to know a lot about cars and have the remarkable ability to predict the future.

The reason why they are not bringing it to the uS is becasue they are not confident of their product as it is not an Audi that they would like American customers to be associated with.... hint hint, those of you in Europe or China or Africa or Australia, there is a good chance that this is sub-premium product selling at premium prices. As I mentioned before, this car may very wellbe based on a cheap VW Polo. Considering Audi's strategy of trying to make the public believe that their cars stand for spotiness and somewhat premium, it makes sense not to being it to the US. Cast your minds back to the BMW 1 Series hatch - same situation here. Look at all the complains about the pre facelift 1 Series hatches.

Justin Timberlake as Audi ambassador, it doesn't get clearer than that for A1 to succeed in North America if not the world.

The A1 has a rather sad face. It makes everyone else on the road depressed and want to commit suicide. Change the look Audi.

True that. Ever since a celebrity (forget who, probably Oprah) said that he/she bought a Prius, everyone wanted one, ignoring that facts behind the numbers. If they were smart they would have gone diesel instead. Especially because the Prius is not as green as people may think. People can be really stupid sometimes.

This is more feminine than the Mini! Mini Cooper S is not gayish. This will just rip the Audi brand apart. Look how ugly this thing is - probably for teen girls...lol

I couldn't agree with you more the mini is for teeny bopper girls and hairdressers, ignore LWKH comments the guy is obviously a BMW fan boy and has no idea what he is talking about, i mean he thinks the current 5 series is a nice looking vehicle.
