Aston Martin Cygnet Concept - First Full View Images Released
Aston Martin Cygnet Concept

Aston Martin has released new images of the highly controversial Cygnet concept.

While the company didn't provide any new information, they stated the Cygnet "represents a creative, environmentally conscious solution, being small, yet with presence - and highly fuel efficient, now combined with the prestige of Aston Martin's luxury brand ownership."

Based on the Toyota iQ, the Cygnet features classic Aston Martin styling cues (grille, front fender vents, and hidden door handles), unique tail lights, and an oversized rear spoiler. Inside, the car boasts gloss black trim, premium leather upholstery, and an iPhone dock.

Power will likely be provided by a Toyota-sourced 1.33-liter Dual VVT-i engine with 99 bhp. Thanks to a start/stop system, the CVT equipped Cygnet should have a combined fuel consumption rating of 55 mpg and a CO2 emissions rating of 120 g/km.

Despite being called a concept, Aston admits development will continue into 2010 and will most likely go into production in 2010 or 2011. To help perverse Aston's premium status, sales will be restricted to Europe only.

Do want! Well the only reason someone would want is it so that they could say 'I drive an Aston Martin' so that they could impress their friends.

Here's another quote: "To help perverse Aston's premium status" Word Definition: per?verse - turned away from or rejecting what is right, good, or proper; wicked or corrupt. It's a success already, well done!

Can't believe we are all thinking of the same thing. Let's see if it can break the record 7 rolls from Casino Royale. LOL Hmm, I will just source a Toyota iQ for way cheaper, put on some Aston-look-alike body panels and...voila, I can now tell everyone I have an Aston Martin!!!

This is a clown car. I think that this was done in order to comply with future green regulations so they can get the tree-fornicators off their backs. We know they commissioned Toyota to build the engine, but I'm inclined to think that Aston Martin has been buying these Costco Style and slapping a new grill on them, whether it may be true or not. Now that I think about it, this is a pretty smart move if they want to keep making the cars that they make. Compared to the other manufacturers at this class, Aston Martin has a pretty bright future ahead of them if any of what I said is true. But then again, this is all speculation.

I would rather get a special edition Scuderia Red Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari based on the Fiat 500 that was shown at Frankfurt. Its preppy 1.4-litre motor kicks out 180hp and goes from 0 - 100km/h in under 7 seconds. It is more like a baby Ferrari than this refridgerator covered with leather.

I have now loast all respect for Aston Martin. These type of cars do not belong in the line up for top end cars like Aston Martin.

Isn't Aston owned by indians? So why are we all so surprised? Next will be a scooter that seats 50.

No, it's not. Jaguar and Land Rover are owned by TATA, but Aston Martin isn't. The guy who owns Prodrive is also the current owner of Aston Martin.

The worst mistake Aston have ever made!... If they really needed to produce a low-emissions car they should have made an Electic Vantage to compete with the Tesla.

The new fuel economy rules are forcing all automakers to increase fuel efficiency and decrease emissions. We will see even Daimler/Mercedes Benz and BMW will have to partner/buy/takeover other automakers that build more small efficient cars to meet the new fuel standards. This is why either Porsche had to take over VW or merge with another larger automaker that builds many small fuel efficient cars. I wish Porsche had come out on top. I also wish that for what is sure to be a substantial additional cost over an IQ this looked a little more Aston (a completely different body bespoke to Aston would be nice) and a lot less like a small Toyota with an Aston grill.

Spot-on. Although I don't understand why Porsche is making such a fuss over this situation because as it is they make small engines, which are easier to use for the whole green fad. They could easily take the engine out of the Boxster and build a hatchback, which will probably be hideous, but hideous sells these days. Right there they will bend the Golf GTI right over, and they can de-tune it further to economize. In my honest opinion, rather than spending millions on hybrid or whatever technology the premiere names should commission other companies to do the work for them in the mean time. And then once they insure their future then they should go into more extravagant programs.
