RINSPEED UC Electric Vehicle Concept Set for Debut in Geneva

Rinspeed will bring their Rinspeed UC? concept to the Geneva Motor Show next March.  The joystick-operated car is meant to be named after a combination of the terms, "Urban Commuter" and "You see?"

The Swiss company's engineers built the 2.5-meter long car with a motor that produces up to 124 Nm of torque.  With batteries, the car is capable of a 120 km range, and can reach a top speed of 110 km/h.

For extended distances, Rinspeed sees the possibility of the car being loaded on-and-off railcars.  The idea would be that you drive the UC? to a train station in Geneva, get on the train with the car, then drive off the train 280 km in Zurich, or elsewhere.

Although not mentioned in the press release, it appears from an official rendering that the car may be plugged in to any household electric socket.  The company envisions a "mobile carport with integrated battery charging station" that may be reserved in advance online.

Rinspeed is making serious strides to bring the car into production.  The company believes the car could be outsourced to large scale manufacturers, and sold on the open market.

More details about the Rinspeed UC? concept should be released leading up to the Geneva show in early March.

Automobile, Train and the Web Form a New Kind of Symbiosis at the Geneva Motor Show 2010 (March 4th - 14th, 2010)

For the first time in its long history of developing groundbreaking concept cars the Swiss automobile and concept powerhouse Rinspeed is creating not just a car but a entire mobility concept. The highly likeable two-seater is powered by an electric motor and is aptly named "UC?", which stands for "Urban Commuter" or "You see?". It was designed for possible future series production.

Nomen est omen: The little speedster measures just 2.50 meters in length and is intended to help avoid gridlock in the inner cities. At the same time an advanced railcar loading system will add the option to cover long distances by train, comfortable, without traffic jams and stress-free. The desired mobile carport with integrated battery charging station is conveniently booked via the internet.

Rinspeed boss Frank M. Rinderknecht: "UC? - it's a new and highly emotional web-based car world that interweaves individual and public transport in an intelligent way. We want to create a community of people who are open for a new definition of mobility."

The lightweight "lovebug" is operated with a central joystick and delivers 124 Newton meters of torque. It reaches a top speed of 110 km/h and has an operating range of 120 kilometers. But the most important aspect of the vehicle is that there is a good chance that it will be built in series production. The concept is designed be easily adapted and integrated by volume manufacturers. Intensive dialogues at the highest levels are already well underway.

Unashamedly plagiarised design. Hubix mt, your observations are spot-on and I'm inclined to believe your suspicions about this RINSPEED EV Concept with the emphasis on 'Con'!

I won't be suprised at all if this is a forthcoming Fiat Topolino, given to Rinspeed as a platform for an Electric Veichle, which will then be out-sourced back to Fiat as an electric version of their Microcar. Just look at it... its got all its Parts from a Fiat Group parts bin. The A pillar is from a 500, the headlight mountings are from a 500 (with a different bulb configuration as these are LEDs), the roof section is a reduced-length version of a 500, the rear lights are from an Alfa Romeo Mito, The door handles are a sprayed version of the 500s door handles and the list goes on and on... I wouldn't be surprised if this is a joint development between them! What do you guys think?
