TechArt Secures New Speed Record with 321 km/h Porsche Cayenne Turbo

Featured 680 hp

A TechArt-tuned Porsche Cayenne Turbo has set a new speed record for fullsize-SUVs.

Driven by Sandro Reuter, the Cayenne hit a top speed of 321.2 km/h (200 mph) at this year`s Trial of Strength event at the Nardò test track in Southern Italy.

The Cayenne Turbo S was equipped with TechArt's 055/2.2 performance kit, which increases the engine's output to 680 hp (an increase of 130 hp). Other goodies included a sport suspension module, an aerodynamic body kit, and 22-inch 'Formula' wheels outfitted with Continental Cross Contact UHP high-performance tires.

While superfluous, the Cayenne also featured daytime running lights, a sport steering wheel, a carbon trim package, and extended leather upholstery.

321,2 km/h - Fullsize-SUV high speed record for TECHART

TECHART Automobildesign really set the sparks flying at this year`s trial of strength at the High Speed Event in Nardo/Italy. Test driver Sandro Reuter reached a top speed of 321,2 km/h, respectively 200 mph, with the TECHART refined Porsche Cayenne Turbo. TECHART thus secured a new speed record for Fullsize-SUVs. The circular 12.4 kilometer track is still considered to be the world´s fastest motor racing circuit, even ahead of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in the United States.

The winner car, refined with the TECHART equipment, is based on a Porsche Cayenne Turbo with Turbo S technology. The installed TA 055/2.2 performance kit takes the engine up to 680 hp, an increase of 130 hp compared with the standard production model. The Aerodynamics Kit I, together with the "Sport" air suspension module, additionally delivered the necessary performance on the circuit.

But thought was also given to TECHART´s usual external upgrades on the vehicle. The TECHART daytime running lights, sports steering wheel, carbon kit, aluminium pedals, decorative stitching and seat belts in gray, additional leather in Luxury Black and illuminated door entry guards with the TECHART logo made the car to a highlight in the pit lane.

Along with the driver`s skills, this success was primarily driven by the perfect, systematic adjustment of the wheels and the suspension. For the record run at moderate temperatures the TECHART Team chose Continental Cross Contact UHP high-performance tires on 22-inch TECHART Formula rims, which were exposed to specific loading as a result of the one-sided cornering on the circuit. Longstanding TECHART test driver Sandro Reuter said with great satisfaction: "The SUV was ideally prepared for the event. Both the engine and the tires showed a high level of performance and consistency."

Must have overcome a lot of drag to reach those kind of speed with a typical SUV's Cd. Kind of scary to be going that fast at a high center of gravity. Oh well, there is probably no need to talk about safety at those kind of speed since no road going car is designed to protect passengers at a speed like that...not like the carbon fiber cage/shell in a dedicated race car. Even then...who knows.

If you think that is scary, what do you think about going 310 km/h in a VW Bus T5??? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2OtphlJkUI and this is the Bus: http://www.thautomobile.com/index_en.htm

That VW Bus thing is nothing but insanity. I love how that driver's helmet looks like a boxing helmet...yeah, get ready for the big KO when it crashes.

Ever heard of a Range Rover? Much better than the Cayenne in every respect except for straight line speed. The Cayenne may be a good car, but it is not a good SUV. Not to mention this stupid thing. I am sorry, maybe I just don't see the point of getting an SUV that goes this fast. If it's about the off-road, like I said, Range Rover HSE Supercharged (or Sport, but I'm pretty sure the HSE/Vogue is better), and the Cayenne isn't as good off-road unless they drastically changed the set-up. If it's for speed, well IMO the Cayenne Turbo S is plenty fast, and if you're going to get anything faster, you might as well go for something that can take a corner like a sports car rather than a truck. Ergo, the Panamera Turbo. If you want the space and the speed, then go for the Audi RS6 Avant (if you're from the US well then you're out of luck I guess). I honestly don't see the point of having a 320 Cayenne other than to say "I saw someone go 320 in this car!!!" To which I'll reply, "have you?"

Not the best looking by a long shot, but TechArt's treatment (along with Gemballa's) is more like it. Highly capable on-road if not off it. This is quite an achievement.

What about the Brabus GLK V12 and his 322,3 km/h.

Yes right. The GLK was even faster. The Cayenne here is the fastest "large SUV". But the GLK was running only with rear-wheel drive, this Cayenne here with 4WD ;- )

yeah lefterov. the glk is bettterrr, reallll betteeeerr. smaller, lighter, has 70hp plus, and goes 1 km/h faster. ow, and has a 5 speed auto. which probably has the same age as my sister. but this doesent mean i like this cayenne... it is too much. and it is not pretty for me, especially if i had i tag on my ass which said "billion trillion euro dude"
