Porsche Produces 10,000th Panamera at Leipzig plant
The 10,000th Porsche Panamera rolled off the production line at the Leipzig plant of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG. 14.12.2009

Built for a customer in Singapore

Porsche has announced the 10,000th Panamera has rolled off the assembly line in Leipzig, Germany.

Considering that the model has only been on sale for three months, this is an impressive feat. More importantly, high-end models are making up a vast majority of sales. Porsche says 44 percent of customers are ordering the 4S, 36 percent get the Turbo, and 20 percent are buying the Panamera S.

According to Michael Macht, Chairman of the Board of Porsche AG, "Sales of the Panamera have really taken off: we have already secured over 9,000 orders. Shortly after it was launched our Gran Turismo won the coveted "Goldenes Lenkrad" ["Golden steering wheel"] and (the) "Auto Trophy" awards in Germany. It has also won many international prizes."

In case you were wondering, the 10,000th car - a platinum silver metallic Panamera Turbo - was built for a customer in Singapore.

Huge customer interest for the fourth Porsche model series

Stuttgart/Leipzig. Today, just three months after the new Panamera went on sale the 10,000th car rolled off the production line at the Leipzig plant of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart. The 500 HP platinum silver metallic Panamera Turbo will be delivered to a customer in Singapore.

Michael Macht, Chairman of the Board of Porsche AG: "Sales of the Panamera have really taken off: we have already secured over 9,000 orders. Shortly after it was launched our Gran Turismo won the coveted "Goldenes Lenkrad" ["Golden steering wheel"] and "Auto Trophy" awards in Germany. It has also won many international prizes." The Panamera 4S is proving particularly popular and has a share of 44 per cent - putting it ahead of the Turbo (36 per cent) and the Panamera S (20 per cent).

The company plans to build 20,000 Panamera per year across the whole product cycle. The fourth Porsche model series is being manufactured at the Leipzig plant in the so-called model mix, sharing a production line with the Cayenne SUV. The innovative, highly streamlined production is seen as a model of technological and economic excellence for the automobile industry worldwide.

no matter how many are sold - it just stays dead ugly

I wouldn't say completely ugly... front is not bad and interior is quite nice. It's the back where it fails.

Golden rule: ugly Porsche = best selling Porsche! (Cayenne now Panamera) Don't blame their management for hand-picking the ugliest design model time and again. It makes absolute business sense.

maybe they have a really good market research team. "hey, look at this Panamera sketch, it looks really nice ! " "no way, the market demands a bigger butt, make that butt as big as you can ! " can't wait for the second generation Panamera, i hope they go they same way they went with the next gen Cayenne. and the Panamera GTS will be great.

It is not problem of beauty-or-ugly, Newtonians. It is a problem of meaning. Porsche means ant thats why sells.

This is a testament that ANY car with a porsche logo on it can sell... if the fugly cayenne sold... it's all about the quality of the car over the looks.

Agreed. People might be put off at first by its looks, but really the only part that's bad about the Panamera is the back 15% of the car, just on the outside. Everything else is fine. The front looks good to me, the side as well. The interior is brilliant, not to mention the engineering. They should change their slogan to "Yeah, our cars have badunkadunks, but that just means more cushion for the pushin'. And our cars push."

Fat chick jokes aside I don't see anything wrong with this car (that a good aftermaker bumper can't fix). Seriously guys face the facts the panamera is an executive sedan for the "OLD" with a twist. It has a big turbo V8 to help the owner pretend they aren't in their mid 50's. This car isn't a show stopper CGT or a hardcore rallyist 959, its a businessman express. I guess that's what is selling these days.

I personally think the car is brilliant too. Quite frankly, the back doesn't bother me at all. I don't even think it's that ugly. I was just appealing to those who do. I would buy the Panamera Turbo in a heartbeat if I had the money. But then again, if I could afford the Panamera then I could probably extend myself a little more for the Aston Martin Rapide. And owning an Aston will be the closest I'll ever get to the One-77, the best car ever conceived by man.

i remember a TV report about Japanese executives and Yakuza bosses who order left hand drive German cars just to be more special. maybe Singapore has the same trend. but that's probably just some press photo.

When I saw it in photos first, I didn't quite like it but I'd like to say that in person this car looks 'unique' in every term. You can't compare it to a CLS, but probably you can compare it with the Rapide. Anyway, I like it.

why must Porsche make all their cars look like the 911 or the original 356?

Because they know how car looks. Kid's drawings still repeatedly same for a while too. Its a level problem of personality development.
