Ford will be bringing the S-Max and the Galaxy facelifted models to the Brussels Motor Show in January.  The news comes by way of Belgian website autokanaal.be, which also obtained official photos of the pair.

Similar to the Ford Fiesta and the Ford C-Max, the 2010 Galaxy MPV and the 2010 S-Max will come with a bigger lower grille.  LED driving lights are also a welcomed addition, as are the new wheels.  New rear light clusters also extend further.  Strangely, engineers opted to use black plastic on the rear bumper, instead of body-colored paint.

Changes for the Galaxy are more subtle with a redesigned front bumper with larger fog lamps and a reshaped upper grille.

Ford will also introduce a new 2.0-liter diesel engine, possibly replacing the 1.8-liter diesel on offer.  This engine may be offered in 115-, 140-, and 163-horsepower versions.  A new, Volvo/Ford joint turbocharged, 203 hp 2.0-liter engine will also be on offer instead of the 2.3-liter model.  Both engines will likely produce significantly lower emissions than the engines being replaced.

Expect to hear more about the two models, and possibly the Ford Mondeo, in the near future.

What happened to the S-max?! Why does it have so many lights, it is not a rally car!

Agreed. They clearly wanted to freshen up the S-Max, but they've just fiddled with it too much. I much prefer it without that Kinetic Catfish-mouth lower grille and fussy details. At least the Galaxy is relatively unchanged.

They could have done a better job intergrating the DRL's Refreshed headlight clusters would have been the better option.

Interior looks nice though, agree that the front is slightly too fussy. Still, its better than any of Toyota's offerings.

The updated S-Max and Galaxy are the first Ford models to get the 2.0 liter EcoBoost (SCTi). It produces 203 PS @ 5500 rpm and 300 Nm @ 1750-4500 rpm! This engine replaces the old 161 PS 2.3 liter Duratec.

And two years from now, Ford will roll out the true second-generation S-Max, a model that will likely replace the Ford Edge and Flex models in the US market as part of Ford's one model for the world branding strategy. It could be powered by the new 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine rated at 200 bhp and might even use the six-speed "Powershift" dual-clutch transmission.
