Wow, talk about bang for your buck! I honestly can't think of many cars in this price range that are faster then it.

Is that jealousy Pawl? :) Dodge is on the ball with the Viper recently. Too bad they aren't doing anything (visibly) with their other models...

All the foreign competition seem to make at least a 100hp/liter so why does not the Viper make an easy 800 hp?

What does hp/liter ratio tell you?

How many of those engines either have forced induction or are highly stressed? The GEN IV Viper makes over 600hp in a relatively mild state of tune. Add exhaust and SRT ECU and you're around 650hp. There are supercharged and turbocharged Viper running aound with 700 to over 1000 horsepower.

lol 640hp out of a 8.4 liter? It probably also comes with a lifespan of just 2 track laps, but you don?t have to worry about that because you?ll run out of fuel in just 1. This car can suck a monkeys nut!

What other 640hp car can get 22mpg on the highway?

Right on Joe_Limon!! This is yet another great american car, now we have 2 great cars that trump the world including the ZR1. Who cares how much hp per litre a car can produce... Those Lambo's Ferrari's produce a lot of hp per litre but also fall apart shortly after. Look at the F430, after 20,000 miles, its 0-60 time drops off by 0.7 seconds? Thats significant! You will never see that happen with a Viper or ZR1 or any other Vette for that matter, actually you will get even quicker times after 20,000 miles. Just take a look at the most recent 1/4 mile run by a bone stock 2009 ZR1, 10.85 seconds! What current bone stock foreign production car can match that? They all are in the 11 second range

Normally aspirated Lamborghini LP670 turns in the 10's.

Mercedes, BMW, Lamborghini, Porsche are only a few examples with normally aspirated engines with at least 100hp/liter.

My question was what does hp/liter tell you about a car? Not what car manufacturers stress their engines.

ok,. same engine, 40hp plus, and i bet it has the same 5 speed gearbox, and this increase in power and decrase in weight gives it another 4mph, over the 184 mph top speed? for chrissakes... nice car but, for chirs'sakes
December 12, 2009 12:43 pm
 Joe_Limon Joe_Limon
What are you talking about? The viper has never had a 5 speed gearbox. And wayyy back in 96-02 the vipers with 415hp had a top speed of 187mph... the current gen is over 200mph

Norther, no disrespect but before you slam any car you should know the basic facts or specs in this case. Ive made the foot-in-mouth mistake before, it makes one look foolish even when he isn't.

"In 2010 the "standard" Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR receives a new short-throw shifter, redesigned rear wing for improved aerodynamics and a new fifth gear ratio which increases top speed by 4 mph to 184 mph." http://www.worldcarfans.com/109120323364/dodge-viper-acr-133-edition-announced-for-2010 read and know your facts, as you said....einsteins. and this X edition, has what in adition to the "standard" 133?
December 13, 2009 7:54 pm
 Xanavi23 Xanavi23
It has a new 5th gear ratio and the new 5th gear affects top speed because of how wide the 6th gear is making it unusable for anything but fuel economy(revving at 1500rpm on the highway in 6th). The Viper has always had a 6 gear.

"and this X edition, has what in adition to the "standard" 133?" Please read paragraph #3 of the story that is conveniently located at the top of this page.

i have read the entire article. and i recall the upgrades, but i think very little was done to the transmission. yes, nice engine (i think), nice aerodynamics, nice suspension...nice "the entire package" but that tranny seems so antique. they say the 133 can do 184, joe lemon says "no it does 200"...say what my man? you mean to say that the manufacturer lies? how fast can this 133-x can go? dont get me wrong, great car but....but...everything about it is so uber, and the performane, not so uber.. at least not on my list.

 Xanavi23 Xanavi23
The main reason they won't change the transmission on regular models is for fuel economy. However this is a track only model where less emphasis is on fuel economy(except in endurance races) so my guess is making the transmission too tight might make the car have questionable gas mileage(on a track). This is just a theory though, anybody can prove me wrong. I agree that the performance increase over the regular ACR isn't too much but still as far as track only specials go this car is highly competitive, especially against cars more expensive. Im not saying it will flat out beat them but it'll get you within their range of times at least.
