2010 Honda CR-Z leaked brochure scans 08.12.2009 - 920

The official Honda CR-Z hybrid coupe Japanese brochure has been leaked. The booklet details some important information including the car's drivetrain as well as some available dealer options such as an aluminium trim exterior package.

Stylistically from the look of things not a lot has changed since the concept CR-Z first broke cover at Tokyo 2007 and revised for the 2009 show. The front end for instance, while keeping its large gaping grille, has a different lights structure and the bonnet line starts higher.

A 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine working with an electric motor drives the front wheels through a 6-speed manual gearbox. Translating the brochure with our very limited Japanese, the fossil-fuel unit appears to have a maximum power output of 84kW (114hp) at 6,000rpm and peak torque of 145Nm (107 lb-ft) at 4,800rpm. The electric motor on the other hand puts out 10kW (14hp) at 1,500rpm and 78Nm (58 lb-ft) at 1,000 rpm.

Further reading reveals a 0 - 100km/h sprint time of 9.7 seconds. The fuel consumption numbers 25.0 km/l (58.8mpg US or 4.0 l/100km) and 22.5 km/l (52.9 mpg US or 4.5 l/100km) are also mentioned but we're not sure what they reference.

Honda will launch the CR-Z in Japan in February 2010, followed by Europe, North America and Africa.

Overall, it is an interesting little car, but the front end still bugs the hell out of me.

ooh Hybrid cars are expanding like a virus,in any street you find a Hybrid car,and even Justin Timberlake Said `i turn my head to the east i see a hybrid car,i turn my head to the west still a hybrid car,so i turn my head to the north and another hybrid car.` Car companies should bulid engines that can work with another something else like Hydrogen not some tricky ways to make cars a little cleaner.

Not as fuel efficient as German diesel. Not as powerful either. Not as good looking either. Not as high quality of materials either. Fail!

It's obvious that you haven't been in a Honda...

Just add some engine size and power and I think this thing is a great pocket rocket.

@CarFan56: Fuel efficiency ? It is better than typical German diesel powered engines with same power or more. (please don't forget energy density of gasoline and diesel) Acceleration can't be compared without curb weight, so you're not able to measure the overall engine performance yet. Good looking ? I hope you're not referring to those craptastic cars from VAG, otherwise i have to puke. Even so, this is an subjectively view. High quality of materials ? Hm, all VAG-cars i know lack significantly high quality materials in their suspension, engine and chassis. They all suffer several weaknesses and tend to fail. Also that soft finish on plastic parts in the interieur seems to be gone after only 2 years. After that it looks even cheapier than a Dacia Sandero. Your comment = fail.

But well i'm still kinda disappointed by this. Combined power of less than 130 hp, getting only 9.7s till 100km/h and they called it sporty ? Sorry Honda, this was the next step into the abyss.

I agree, but I would take a tdi scirocco over this. Assuming this (a mugen version) will be in the same price range as a scirocco (r), this thing doesn't compare...

Looks pretty awesome, I'm sure that tuning companies are making plans to boost up the power of the engine right now. To bad that the license plate is ruining the design of the grille.

The shape reminds me of the CR-X from the 80's...a modern interpretation of it. Yes, quite sick of all these hybrids which is just too complicated. I would rather just stick with a simple, reliable diesel. Technology is already there for electrical cars, which can easily have acceleration and torque way surpassing all modern supercars (check videos on youtube). Of course, all car companies and petroleum companies are conspiring not to make them so they can derive profits from the burning of fossil fuel. As a result, there is the costly nonsense like hybrid.

yep simple diesels: with 1800bar injectors, variable-vane turbo's, complex after treatment systems, etc... And as for electric cars being faster than supercars: yes they are...untill the batteries run out... after 10km or so... I mean what's not to like about this one? has a manual, so will drive like a normal car, but with better fuel economy. And considering it's only a 1.5L, performance is not too bad.

It is very reminiscent of the CRX who cool!. Finally a hybird that isnt bland and ugly. The biggest disappointment for me is that I when I drive the Prius, is that it reminds that I am driving a dishwasher, or refrigerator, in that its just an appliance and never get any real joy out of the expericence Go Honda.

That's just the starting engine, i would expect an SIR with the 200hp engine, which would make this one of the hottest super compact hot hatches.

This car will be for those tuners who like to put nos and Turbo's in it then. Just like the CR-X.

justbored, VW is known for making the best engines, along with BMW, Porsche, AMG, etc. No wonder VW is a larger company then Honda, Kia, etc.

VW is NOT known to make the best engine, their turbo'd ones are ok, but not great. But their naturally aspirated ones just suck. I would guess you never even drove one. Well Honda instead IS known for creating great engines.

Honda 1.2l Engine - 90PS, 114Nm, 5.3l/100km (Honda Jazz/Fit) VW 1.2l Engine - 60PS, 108NM, 5.5l/100km (VW Polo) Who did you say builds the best engines? ;)

I think VW group has won more engine awards than any other brand, especially now that they have Porsche too. I think the 4.2L audi engine is amazing, the W12, and of course the 5.2L V10, also the 6.0L V12 TDI.

You forgot Ferrari. And I don't normally think of VW as making engines comparable to BMW, Porsche, or Honda.
December 10, 2009 1:19 am

@radmeister: The W-engine ist failure by design, cause it uses two VR-engines which are known to be bad engineered. (e.g. heat on intake, no equal length intake) And that 4.2l V8 is crap for the time it has been released. Especially when compared to BMWs 4.0l V8. The torque curve would be good/great if that (boring sounding) Audi engine would've been released at least 10 years ago. Also it got great reliability problems, there are several RS4 known to kill of their big end bearings after only 15.000 km....

"0 - 100km/h sprint time of 9.7 seconds" I'd call that a "crawl", not a "sprint". With performance like that, this will be more of a poseur-mobile than the last Celica GTS.

Kinda weak... But what happens when you turbo a hybrid?
