Christmas may pass before Mercedes GP completes its 2010 driver lineup.
With Nico Rosberg already confirmed for one seat, the identity of his eventual teammate is the subject of speculation intensified by persistent rumours linking Michael Schumacher with a return to the grid.
But the German carmaker's competition boss Norbert Haug told the German news agency DPA on Monday that the Brackley based team will "have to live" with the attention for now.
"We need time and I cannot promise today that the present will be unwrapped before Christmas," he said.
