Can't wait for it, but really just 1000 kg? That's lighter than the f40 and that was a very basic car.

That's unbelievable engineering.
The definition of competitive and passionate spirit in motor racing.

Basically it is a turbocharged carbon fibered 458 Italia. To think about it, the all-carbon baby McLaren has a turbocharged V8 and is similarly priced; if not cheaper than a regular 458. On the bright side is finally a Ferrari that is light with some torque that won't be embarrassed with some diesel German executive saloons. Let's see what Lamborghini, Porsche and Pagani or McLaren will come out with..

because who cares how good a Ferrari is in real life when on paper it has low torque, right ?
November 26, 2009 6:20 pm
you do have a point there, but the target weight of this F70 from this article is just a ton, the McLaren MP4-12C weight more than that

Can't wait to see Porsche's new supercar! This Ferrari sounds amazing though!

i hope Porsche builds a new supercar too. something like a new Dauer 962 LM or a GT1 would be nice. for those who don't know about the 962:

There's something about roadgoing Le Mans car like the GT1 and the CLK GTR. I would love to see something like the Carrera GT again - it's one of my favorite hypercar besides the Zonda. Guess the new breed of hypercar will have a stronger rigidity with even less weight and not necessarily naturally aspirated.

as usual, the top Ferrari sets the benchmark for another few years after it's finished.

hemi 426; Your right it is lighter than the F40 but you ahve to remember the F40 was also a Carbon Kevlar composite which is not aslight as Carbon Fiber. The Chassis on the F40 was also a tube steel chassis which added substantial weight to it as well. As you see by my tag name and my pic I am a huge fan of the F40. I personaly think the F40 is the most Iconic Ferrari made since it was so purpose built. It is just a shame that they produced them in such numbers which has ultimately hurt the resale and collectability value of the cars. I really do hope that Ferrar goes in the direction of making a harder core race bread car again. I also hope it is true to the picture in design. I love the performance figures of the 458 Italia but am not overly excited from the design of the car. I am also a person who started my love of cars during the F40/959 battle so I am partial to that era of design. I still love the sleekness the F40, Bugatti EB110, and Lamborghini Diablo SV had at that time. I would love to have all of these cars in a Garage of my own one day.

1000kg ?
I really dont believe it. they would by happy for 1150kg ...
even mclaren failed to achieve to build F1 as planned (1000kg) and I dont think this car will cost a milion
November 26, 2009 7:42 pm
McLaren isn't Ferrari. the F1 wasn't the best car of it's days, the Dauer 962 LM had 1030kg and 730hp back in 1994. i'm sure with today's technology Ferrari can shed those 30 kilos. heck , the basic Gumpert Apollo has 1100kg and it isn't the most high tech thing out there.
November 26, 2009 7:53 pm
I don't consider the Dauer a production car, it had a Porsche frame and engine. You'd be just a correct calling the lingenfelter corvette's production cars.
November 27, 2009 2:47 am
@ Joe_Limon , the dauer 962 LM is considered a limited series production car , just like RUF cars.

660HP is a bit disappointing to be honest. I always thought the F70 would be as powerful as the FXX!
November 26, 2009 8:53 pm
~660hp is more than enough on a 1000kg car. normal people must be able to control it after all. this is supposed to be an engineering statement, not a hardcore race car.
November 26, 2009 10:55 pm
Really now Murcielago? 660 horses is not enough with the car only weighing a supposed 1000kg? For a car coming in at only 2200 pounds, that is more than enough horse power.
November 29, 2009 3:24 am
wow just 1000kg? damn, that should really have a great affect on, on everything basically, 0-100, 80-120, handling. wow. but all carbon fiber and whatnot that's gonna be costly. how safe is making everything carbon fiber? can it bend and absorb the energy like metal when u hit a vehicle??
November 26, 2009 10:01 pm
the front or the back will disintegrate on impact like F1 cars, dissipating the impact force and the passenger compartment is reinforced.

@XtremeMaC01
You know what Stallone aka. J. Rambo said: Live for nothing or die in a Ferrari xD.

Twin turbocharged V8 with 1000kg, is this a modern reincarnation of my favourite supercar of all times? (the F40) I hope it is!
I'm not okay with those who say that 660hp aren't enough. I think that if Ferrari respects that target weight, they won't need more power.. just look at the F40, it "only" has 478hp.
Besides, that's part of Ferrari's future plans: focusing on weight saving instead of focunsing on making more powerful engines...
Finally i think the main reason why this car will be so expensive is its weight..
November 26, 2009 10:33 pm
It's from Autoexpress, everyone take a cup of salt with this information.
November 27, 2009 1:02 am
1000kg 2012 ferrari?? i just dont see it happening.. yes the car will be lighter than the enzo as it had a heavy v12 engine. v8 twin turbo is a lighter more efficient set up however 1000kg target is too extreme in my opinion. Along with 660ps, you will see many on wrecked exotics after the pick up dates and ferrari wouldnt build cars that are twitchy under slight acceleration for their customers to drive on public roads.. i wont believe the weight figures till i see it for real because its not realistic..
November 27, 2009 4:24 am
does the Caparo T1 ring a bell ?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caparo_T1
consider the F70 a Caparo with a bigger engine and a bit more creature comfort. the "twitching" can be fixed thanks to the miracle of modern electronics and what Ferrari calls the Manettino.
November 27, 2009 10:00 pm
Ferrari sets a very good example here regarding automotive lightweight. I hope other manufacturers will follow. At the end of the day, this is the future to enhance performance. It is unreasonable to have a car with 2000 hp while weights 2~3 ton.
