New details have emerged about Ferrari's long-rumored Enzo replacement, the F70.

Expected to be smaller, lighter, and faster than the Enzo, the F70 will have a target weight of just 1,000kg (2,204 lbs) as previewed by the 'Mille Chile' (Italian for one thousand kilos) concept of 2007. This is roughly 366kg (807 lbs) less than the Enzo, which should pay huge dividends in terms of performance and handling. To ensure this incredible weight savings is possible, Ferrari will equip the F70 with carbon fiber body panels, carbon-ceramic brakes, and a race-oriented interior.

As we have previously reported, the F70 is expected to use a twin-turbo V8 engine (like the F40). The V8 will likely produce 660 bhp (485 kW), which is identical to the output created by the Enzo's 6.0-liter V12. Backed up by a lightweight chassis, the F70 should be able to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.0 seconds and hit a top speed in excess of 230 mph. Despite the epic performance, the engine will be relatively fuel-efficient and offer reduced CO2 emissions.

Expected to cost £600,000 ($991,800 USD / €657,750), production will likely be limited to 399 units when it goes on "sale" (as usual, Ferrari will select who can buy the car) in 2012.

Can't wait for it, but really just 1000 kg? That's lighter than the f40 and that was a very basic car.

That's unbelievable engineering.

The definition of competitive and passionate spirit in motor racing.

Basically it is a turbocharged carbon fibered 458 Italia. To think about it, the all-carbon baby McLaren has a turbocharged V8 and is similarly priced; if not cheaper than a regular 458. On the bright side is finally a Ferrari that is light with some torque that won't be embarrassed with some diesel German executive saloons. Let's see what Lamborghini, Porsche and Pagani or McLaren will come out with..

because who cares how good a Ferrari is in real life when on paper it has low torque, right ?

you do have a point there, but the target weight of this F70 from this article is just a ton, the McLaren MP4-12C weight more than that

There's something about roadgoing Le Mans car like the GT1 and the CLK GTR. I would love to see something like the Carrera GT again - it's one of my favorite hypercar besides the Zonda. Guess the new breed of hypercar will have a stronger rigidity with even less weight and not necessarily naturally aspirated.

The 1994 Dauer 962 Le Mans is a beauty @Scratchy

as usual, the top Ferrari sets the benchmark for another few years after it's finished.

hemi 426; Your right it is lighter than the F40 but you ahve to remember the F40 was also a Carbon Kevlar composite which is not aslight as Carbon Fiber. The Chassis on the F40 was also a tube steel chassis which added substantial weight to it as well. As you see by my tag name and my pic I am a huge fan of the F40. I personaly think the F40 is the most Iconic Ferrari made since it was so purpose built. It is just a shame that they produced them in such numbers which has ultimately hurt the resale and collectability value of the cars. I really do hope that Ferrar goes in the direction of making a harder core race bread car again. I also hope it is true to the picture in design. I love the performance figures of the 458 Italia but am not overly excited from the design of the car. I am also a person who started my love of cars during the F40/959 battle so I am partial to that era of design. I still love the sleekness the F40, Bugatti EB110, and Lamborghini Diablo SV had at that time. I would love to have all of these cars in a Garage of my own one day.

1000kg ? I really dont believe it. they would by happy for 1150kg ...

even mclaren failed to achieve to build F1 as planned (1000kg) and I dont think this car will cost a milion

McLaren isn't Ferrari. the F1 wasn't the best car of it's days, the Dauer 962 LM had 1030kg and 730hp back in 1994. i'm sure with today's technology Ferrari can shed those 30 kilos. heck , the basic Gumpert Apollo has 1100kg and it isn't the most high tech thing out there.

I don't consider the Dauer a production car, it had a Porsche frame and engine. You'd be just a correct calling the lingenfelter corvette's production cars.

@ Joe_Limon , the dauer 962 LM is considered a limited series production car , just like RUF cars.

Ultima GTR, same performance for fraction of the cost.

660HP is a bit disappointing to be honest. I always thought the F70 would be as powerful as the FXX!

~660hp is more than enough on a 1000kg car. normal people must be able to control it after all. this is supposed to be an engineering statement, not a hardcore race car.
